Xilitol is a sugar substitute that is in many foods and medications - IT IS LIFE THREATENING IF A DOG INGESTS IT.

Cocoa Mulch is also dangerous --

Much more important warnings.

Thanks, Andy. Good reminder!

Indeed!

How may milligram of xilitol does piece of gum contains?

xylitol is a sugar alcohol, if there is a nutrition label on the package that would show up directly under carbohydrates.

From Veterinary Partners website:

"The hypoglycemic dose of xylitol for dogs is considered to be approximately 0.1 grams per kilogram of body weight (about 0.045 grams per pound). A typical stick of gum contains 0.3 to 0.4 grams of xylitol, which means that a 10 lb dog could be poisoned by as little as a stick and a half of gum."

Oh, Thank you so much for this!

We don't do gums, but sometimes do breath mint. ( Does not mean that my breath stinks! - well, at least I think..?) I have to , and tell my kids to be very causious that we don't drop any mints....

A good solution is just to use breath mints that contain real sugar, not xylitol. Assuming that nobody is diabetic and nobody is eating them in quantity, the amount of sugar & calories in a tiny mint like Tic Tacs should not cause any weight gain, lol.

Thank you, thank you for bringing these lists to our attention! It is so important to stay aware of the dangers that are in our everyday lives.
