About what age did you start letting your puppy go outside to potty by themselves?  Our yard is fenced but I still go out with her everytime.

Bindi is 2 and she likes company when she goes. If no one is out there she will sit or lay by the gate. She will run & go & then come back to the gate. Then again she has to follow me into the bathroom anytime I go. I try to tell her I can do it myself.

We had to stay out with her when she was a puppy because there was a hawk in the area, so I think she got used to the company.

I think that is what happened with Tara too. When she was small we had our fence down for house repairs and we always took her out on a leash. Now she has become accustomed to the company!

LOL about her keeping you company on your bathroom trips! I guess one good turn deserves another!

Cooper seems to think that I need to go out with him, but if my husband is letting him out, it is fine to go out by himself.   Go figure!   He seems to prefer that I let him out, so that I will go with him and looks for me first, but will settle for my husband if I am not handy.  LOL!  It is totally my fault.   My husband saw a coyote at our back fence about a year ago and I have been watchful ever since.   I don't mind, except now that winter is coming again, it would be nice to just scoot him out the door!

I have a completely fenced yard AND a electronic fence, the e-fence is mainly to keep the doodles out of the koi pond and out of my garden.  So I have double protection but still watch from the window, they like to get into trouble like digging, eating what ever falls in the yard etc. etc.  When I just had Sasha at one point she liked company when I let her out, she would still go out but would turn and look to make sure I was still at the door.  When I got Oliver they were company for each other so I was no longer needed - LOL.  I would say both were about 9 months old when I would let them out alone.  I know my yard is safe but I have found all sorts of food left behind from the darn squirrls = chicken breasts, sandwiches, apples, you name it !!!  I don't want my doodles eating anything that the wild animals may have left behind so YES I watch like a hawk.  It gives me piece of mind I guess.  I am overly protective of them :(

Thanks for all the responses.  It sounds like most doodles enjoy company while doing their business :)

i dont. I like to see where the poop is and pick it up immediately. I hate searching around for it, even though Cooper uses roughly the same area each time. I dont like the thought of her out there alone causing mischief, someone stealing her, or now we are in the country, wildlife (wolves, coyotes, bears) getting her. Not that Id be able to do anything....

Cooper seems to like me being out there with her too
