I went to the park with my 4 year old granddaughter, her parents, and our 6 month old pup, Chloe. We had a wonderful afternoon roaming over the entire park and exploring every nook and cranny. My son offered to walk back to retreive the car and bring it around to where we ended up. Several minutes later he approached us across a field from a different direction than he left. Chloe was immediately alert. She didn't recognize him and he was heading for her little girl. She began a low growling bark, until he was close enough to call her name. I had Rottweilers when my son was growing up, and expected that from them, but was totally surprised and pleased to see her protective nature.

Are yours protective?

BWAHAHAHAHA....the visual I have in my brain right now......

OMG, that made me laugh so hard!  Sometimes Libby jumps up at the turn of a page.  The other night a napkin fell on the floor near her when she was sleeping and she almost gave herself whiplash trying to find the offending object.  She's not a fearful dog - thunder, lightning, fireworks - she's fine, but these little things just disturb her feng shui!  :)

Enzo is 4 months and just starting to show some protectiveness for me. We were at a carshow this past weekend and brought her albg. I'll bet 100 people passed us and she was fine. A very " questionable", unsavory guy came walking toward us, and she went ballastic! Surprised the heck out of me ! She continued barking until he passed us, and then went back to her sweet self again.

Camus has become very protective at home, which I think is good.  He has also growled at a stranger walking toward us from a distance at the park.  He has only done this when it starts to get dark.  The park is not a "dog park" and is a large open expanse of land. He will come if called so again I think of it as a good behavior.

My doodles would probably let the 'bad guy' grab the person and give away the family treasures.  We had Samoyeds growing up an they always calmly but definitely got between the child and  any strangers.

My goldendoodle is very protective, she barks and growls at people who she doesn't know! I like that though because I wanted a dog that would protect me

that has got to be the MOST darling picture!!!  Your granddaughter is absolutely adorable and so is the pup!

my mini Zoe would probably bark but only to alert us that there is someone coming to play with her.

Bender, would definitely growl and be protective until he knew who it was.

What an adorable pair!  Chloe is such a cute guard.  :)
