Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hey everyone! We just picked up our little goldendoodle Gus this afternoon and we are absolutely in love. He has very straight hair and looks almost identical to the retriever side. I guess we were just curious what he might look like when he's an adult. He's shedding like crazy at the moment but I heard they shed a lot of puppy hair at the beginning. Does anyone have a doodle that looks similar to our little guy?

He is adorable. If if he is shedding now, my guess is he will be a shedder as an adult. I don't think puppies that shed stop shedding as adults, but puppies that don't shed can start shedding as adults. He is a cutie regardless. There is a group here called From Pup to Adult. It is fun to look through all the photos and find doodles that look like yours.

Thank you:) He is shedding an insane amount already and he the thickest fur!

I agree with Amy. Zeus did not shed at all during his early puppyhood, but at about 15 months old, he started shedding massively and continues to do so on a daily basis. It's so bad that I have to sweep the hard floors downstairs twice a day and vacuum the carpet upstairs once a day. All the floors need cleaning every hour, but I don't have that much time or energy. Also, my pillows look like fuzzy rectangular dogs on my bed, so every night, I'm scraping off the hair with a lint brush. I plan to buy Shed-X soon and see if that might help.

Gus sure is an adorable puppy, Beth.

We were shocked when we went to pick up our guy and our shirts were covered. The hair that seems to be falling out is very straight and it seems to have a crimpy looking wavy hair growing in underneath. It will be so interesting to see how he turns out:)

Wow, that is bad. Have you tried a FURminator or FurGOpet brush on Gus? It definitely helps with Zeus' massive shedding, but I waited until he was nearly 2 years old to get one. So, he doesn't really like it very much and he'll only let me use it on him for just a few minutes. The sooner you start using the brush, the more the pup will usually tolerate it later on.

We haven't tried that yet! I will have to get one of those. I was just so surprised at the amount of hair he was losing at such a young age. Thanks for the suggestion!

The only picture  I see is your profile picture.  Gus looks pretty retrieverish in it but I can't tell if he has the chrysanthemum on the snout by the eyes that often indicates that a dog will develop facial furnishings.

I'm still trying to figure this website out! I'll try to upload another pic!

Well there he looks a lot more doodly. I can see some furnishings on his face. Doesn't change the shedding thing though. He is a cutie.

You wouldn't believe the amount of hair we are pulling off of him each day! It's insane! We love him regardless though. Thanks:)

Awww, Beth, he's such a cutie pie! He looks like the full-bred GR puppy I had, but Gus' coat is fuller and much fluffier. I'm anxious to see how big he gets over the next 2 years. :0)

Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm about to order some Shed-X (a food supplement that supposedly reduces shedding). I'll let you know if it works.

Thank you!! He is an F2 doodle. His mom was 75 pounds and Dad was 120! He will be a big boy! Definitely let me know how well it works!
