Hello everyone!  I have a 3.5 month old Irishdoodle!  She is absolutely wonderful!  However, she has an issue with peeing in her sleep.  We noticed it within the 1st week of having her home and sent a urine sample to the vet, came back UTI.  The 2 week antibiotic treatment worked fairly well, the 1st week there was no incidents, the 2nd week she urinated in her sleep 3x within 2 days.  So we dropped off another sample on friday and we are awaiting the results on monday.  She doesn't pee when excited, or dribble consistently throughout the day and she doesn't urinate in her sleep every time.  I would say she has this accident 2-4x a week.  She is only crated for a short period of time and we also have a pet sitter to come in to let her out if we are gone more than 3 hours (spoiled, I know)!

My vet is thinking ectopic ureter but I just don't feel like that is it.

Has anyone had this issue with urinating in the sleep? and/or Has anyone had a pup with ectopic ureter?

Thank You in advance for taking the time to read this post, all feedback is appreciated!

The only thing i can think of (other than UTI) is maybe incontinence caused by an early spay? Though how much is evidence and how much is myth I dont know
Thanks Kaytlin.  Macie hasn't been spayed yet, so that couldn't be the cause of it.  Hopefully it is just a symptom of a UTI.  I will keep you posted!

We had a puppy that we adopted from the pound and she would pee seconds after she fell asleep.. It was soo nasty we tried everything, and there was a medication that worked but then she just stopped doing it all together, like she grew out of it.

My suggestion is that if you think that she has an UTI check with you vet and see if there is anything wrong with slipping her a little apple cider vinegar in her water.  If Dogs are anything like humans they say that IF you us antibiotics to clear away a UTI you WILL experience another within a year. I am proof of this, it was horrible!! Then I found that if I drank 2Tablespoons of Non-filtered apple cider vinegar as often as possible it cleared up on its own. And it was quick!  Now it has been 2yrs since I have had a UTI.. Studies have shown when you eat or drink stuff with lots of acid the bacteria in the bladder which causes the infection cant grow.

I hope you puppy either grows out of it like mine did or you find a solution! Good luck!!!

Amanda that you for your post.  We will find out the results of her urine analysis tomorrow (monday).  Do you recall the antibiotic your pup was on?  I was thinking that maybe the initial antibiotic wasn't strong enough to treat her UTI or bladder infection.  Macie is a very picky eater so I'm not sure if she will drink the apple cider vinegar, but I will definitely try it!
Thanks for your feedback!

hi Katie, I did a little searching on the internet..it seems this can be normal especially after a UTI.  It maybe the UTI has come back... let us know what the results say tomorrow!!

Thanks Suzann!  I am hoping that it is just a UTI that has not gone away yet!  I will keep you posted!

Sorry I didn't post yesterday about Macie!  It appears that Macie still has a UTI possible bladder infection that did not clear with the 1st round of antibiotics.  They think the bacteria is resistant to the antibiotic she was on.  She is now on a different brand for 2 weeks, if it doesn't clear they will move forward with a urine sample directly from her bladder to test the bacteria and treat with a compatible antibiotic.  I am very very relieved the ectopic ureter was not discussed again and so far (knock on wood) Macie has not urinated in her sleep in 3 days!

Thanks for all your feedback!
