So guys I have some bad news! Wrigley has a bladder infection :-( he is 11 weeks old. Has anyone went through this before? I feel so bad for him because I've had my fair share of them myself and they SUCK! I almost wonder if thats why he could never get comfortable sleeping and would moan and groan, get up and do it all over again! I wish I knew when he actually got it too! He drinks constantly and always has ever since I got him he's drank a lot and couldn't ever really hold it to long.

I just gave him his first pill of antibiotics. He is on a 7 day antibiotic and will get retested.

Get well soon Wrigley!! Annabelle has not had one. I can imagine how uncomfortable he must be. Poor little guy. If he is only 11 weeks I wonder if he had it before you brought him home. He sure is adorable.

Poor guy!
What made you realize he had one? I'm just curious so I know what to look for. :)
Your not a bad puppy mom. I'd say you're very observant. I think some of us just tend to take a wait and see approach when it comes to things like this. I know I do. I do it with myself, my kids, etc.
Once my husband got really sick and I tried to tell him it was all in his head. He got mad at me and I ended up taking him to the dr. Well, turns out he was really sick. ;)
I know how much you've been going through with Wrigley. So, I hope this helps get him on track and helps him to keep his crate clean. :). Oh and I bet he's going to feel so much better!
That's funny because I worry too and make up all the scenarios in my head, but then put things off. I'm a weirdo. Lol
Poor baby. Make sure he is getting probiotics to replace the good bacteria in his digestive system that the antibiotcs will kill. When my boy had a bladder infection I started giving him cranberry capsules (he was also treated with antibiotics) and it really helped bring the pH of his urine down. Now I give it to him as a preventative.
Did your vet test his urine? Was any bloodwork done? I only ask because incessant thirst can be a sign of diabetes, and the excessive drinking can then lead to loss of bladder control.
I've read a little bit about the cranberry supplements and they say you can give the human form. Just make sure it's pure and no added sugar. Of course they also have cranberry stuff just for animals. Some you can sprinkle on their food. I also read that you can give them dehydrated cranberries, but again they have to be unsweetened.
I think your suppose to wait for him to be done with the antibiotics to give the cranberry supplememts, but not 100% sure. I know it's suggested to give probiotics while on antibiotics (a spoonful of regular yogurt with active cultures will do the trick).
I gave cranberry capsules while he was on antibiotics without a problem. Make sure you give the probiotics separately from the antibiotics - a couple of hours apart.
I just by cranberry capsules for people from the grocery store. Just check there are no additives/ sweeteners etc.
Awwwww!!! I hope Wrigley gets better soon. How doe they contract a UTI?
Drinking a lot of water is due to them not feeling well. A puppy can get a uti the same way a human does. Keeping a full bladder and not emptying it all out. Then bad bacteria builds up and causes the infection (my simple way of explaining it). I'm sure there are other causes like picking up bacteria because their bum is so close to the ground. ;) But, drinking too much water is a sign there is something going on since they think it makes them feel better.
