Hi everyone!

This may be a silly question, but does anyone have a recommendation on how to make an effective bell for my doodle to ring when she needs to go potty? I've seen these mentioned multiple times and have seen them on a few websites (none in local stores). I'm thinking of making one, but was curious where everyone got theirs if they have one?

When I had schnauzers they rang the bells that hung from a string from the backdoor.  Since we have a doggie door now, we haven't taught the doods to ring a bell, but it's a good idea.  There are time we have the doggie door shut, and this is when Ethel will have an accident.

This is how we taught the schnauzers and by the first evening it worked:

When they would sit by the door to go out, I would walk over take their head gently and hit the bells with their nose, while saying "wanna go outside?"   We did this about a half dozen times.  While sitting having dinner that night, we heard a faint dingaling coming from the familyroom.  We praised her so much and from there it was a no brainer for her.

On a side note...I saw on funniest home videos, a lady had a regular counter top bell, (the kind you ring when no one is at the front desk) and it just sat on the floor next to the door.  It showed the dog standing next to it, then hitting it gently with his paw.  He did this several times until the owner acknowledged him.  You may find it on youtube.

I bought the poochie bells and at 12 weeks old Kosci has mastered the ringing to let her outside.
This is great stuff!!! Thanks for the advice, all! :) I learned about the idea on this forum, so I'm looking forward to putting in the work to get her trained on it.
