Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi All,

Have any of you heard this?  I've read this in three different places, very interesting:

"Dogs often hesitate before going out in the rain. It's not because they're afraid of getting wet, but because the rain amplifies sound and hurts their sensitive ears. "

I do notice this with Sophie my Berne Doodle, she'll stop dead right at the doors and looks scared and turns around, Daisy, my golden doodle, not as much, but very interesting...........

I too just recently read this, online somewhere, so cant remember if it was a reputable source. My two doodles dont like to go out in the rain and will only after much hesitation and absolutely FULL bladders make them. Hard to say why. They love getting wet on every other occasion in any other situation, hoses, pools, sprinklers.....who knows?

LOL...not Enzo....we see rain so infrequently, she loves playing in it!  She reminds me of a little kid with the puddles.

Not Ragley either! She LOVES rain! I have to beg her to come back in!

I've never read that, but JD is the only dog I've had who won't go out in the rain, and it's not because of sound, it's because he hates being wet. He won't even go out into the yard if it rained during the night and the grass is still wet, even if the sun is shining. He also hates swimming and will not voluntarily go into any body of water for any reason, even to fetch a ball.

I have heard of this too, but Finnley did not get to read the article. So, she doesn't know any better.
She loves to be outside, no matter what the weather. She has always enjoyed jumping around in the rain. I have no doubt that it is not hurting her ears ! LOL

The rain only becomes a problem with Orwell if it is the last time I potty him at night. He's already so tired and he looks at me like, "Really? We can just go to bed. I'm fine."

Otherwise, he likes playing in it during the day and when he's had enough he knows where to find shelter outside. We have a huge overhang and the dog house (for now). He's going to outgrow that dog house. It was Bonny's, but he is going to be much taller. Momma made a boo boo.

Maserati loves playing in the rain! Bentley hates the rain and will hold it until I force him to go outside.

Libby hates the rain and absolutely refuses to go out in it 99% of the time.  She doesn't like water in any situation, which is why I cannot believe she will go into the hydrotherapy tank in physical therapy.  But she has often not gone out for close to 24 hours if she thinks there is precipitation involved.

My puppy of 3.5months and she didn't like the rain but I started to crate her until she would have to immediately relieve herself outside. We live in the Seattle area so rain will be a constant factor in our lives. Good luck!

Watch out for her getting muddy. I muddy paws all over my jeans. I live in Vancouver, WA and my Orwell is about the same age and he doesn't mind the rain, so much so that he will get dirty.

Very interesting!  Libby hates the rain and refuses to go out!  Makes for a long day for potty breaks! I've just always thought because we have so little of it here in the Central Valley that she was afraid of it.
