Recommendation for steam/spot cleaner for carpet?

Having gotten the puppy to adulthood (with fewer accidents than I expected), many parties, and several aging cats (gack--hairballs), it's finally time to buy new carpet.  I figured it's also time to buy a carpet cleaner (thinking a spot cleaner, not a whole carpet cleaner) that does a better job that I can do on hands and knees with Resolve!  Anyone have any good suggestions?

I have a great recipe that gets out odors and stains.  I am at work so I will have to give it to you tonight.  Its with Dawn dish detergent, peroxide, and something else.  It works amazingly... I spilt red wine on my micorfiber couch and used this and NO STAIN, NO SMELL.  When Oliver was a puppy and it was like his 2nd day home with me, we were playing on the couch and he peed on the couch !!!  it all happened in a split second.  I used this recipe and no smell and no stain.. it really works great.  The only thing is you have to be careful of the peroxide and test in a small area.  I was lucky where the peroxide did not lighten my couch at all.  The best thing about this is it takes care of the stain and odor :)

Hopefully Jane (Guinness and Murphy) will come on.  She has a "green machine" or something that she says is fabulous.  She is going through some issues with little Guinness at the moment but checks in every day.  It might even be archived because we have had this discussion before and all agree on the machine Jane uses!

For odors I use X-O Concentrated Odor Neutralizer which is natural and organic.  You just mix it with water and spray it.  It is amazing stuff.  Smells pretty sweet and overwhelming in the beginning but within a day the smell is gone and not a trace of any bad smells...believe me...I hate smells and have the nose of a drug sniffing dog!!!  This has even worked on dogs that get "skunked".  I order it on line.  www.xocorp.com or call 1-800-442-9696.  Great for stinky washing machines too...anything!

Yup, that's the one.  The "green machine" "bit the dust", so now we have the Spot Bot.  With two IBS dogs, it's a necessity.  It works great....just put it on the spot and wait a few minutes.

I have had a little green machine for years and it works wonderfully.  I bought a spot bot for my mother in law.  Wish I would have tried it out before I gave it to her.  lol

Spot Bot it is!! Thanks so much. The other tips on solutions will be helpful, too--especially the tip for the stinky washer!! You have to give up on a super clean house when you share it with animals, but I do like to keep making the attempt. . . .

Dirt devil Purpose for pets. I borrowed it and used it on our brand new carpet that Neely had diarrhea on and it worked well. \I would think the cleaner would make the biggest difference in odor release and cleaning though

Bissell Spot Lifter.  We had Monty for just a few weeks when we went to sell our townhouse.  The realtor was amazed that she could not detect puppy smells/stains in our place.  We used Nature's Miracle, worked like a charm.  I still use it for all the dumb things I spill on the carpet.
