It's getting dark here before 5 pm, so I'm thinknig I need to buy a reflector/light for night walking for Bentley and myself..does anyone have a good one? If so, where'd you get it.
The other night, I was driving and didn't see a biker on my mother's road..could've easily hit him/her..so now I just want to make sure we are being safe.
We wear yellow reflective construction vests and Spud has a lighted collar. Sometimes I take a flashlight also. Great that you are thinking safe. Our neighborhood streets are 25 mph so that means everyone drives 50mph!
There are reflective dog vests and my trainer gave me a reflective jacket for Christmas two years ago. The jacket is really great. I have not used the vest in the dogs yet; I'm still using a lighted collar, which works fine. The collar can be blinking or a steady light. I got everything off the Internet. The jacket is on line also. Here is a link to a good site:http://www.advancedsafetyequipment.com/sales/coats.html
Here is the dog vest: http://www.dogvizvest.com/
Here is the reflective color is use: http://www.batterybarn.com/nnd03.htm.
I was also given a collar that rescue dos use, but it is over 80.00.
Hope all this helps. I have never had a problem when using any on the above, and where I live there are few sidewalks.
All the things mentioned are great items for night time walking, but as a driver, I would like to see you in one of the reflective vests. The other morning I was taking my DH to work and it was raining. 6am so pitch dark. The was a jogger coming down the street and she was wearing one of those reflective vests and I could see her forever. As far as I'm concerned you can't be too careful!
I have a lighted leash. It works fairly well and is higher than the dog, who is short. My only problem is that I forget to turn it off and the battery goes dead. You can have it blinking or just on.
I use a blinking LED light that clips on. I usually clip it onto his leash on the top and I hold it in the direction of any car that is coming towards us. It is (obnoxiously) bright so I know that the approaching cars can see it. I like the reflective vest idea though!
I used to have the blinking lights when I used to run in FL in the am and it was still dark. I ran on the sidewalks though. I like the vest idea because people from both directions can see you. I know it sounds crazy that the people on the other side of the road need to see you as well, but I just think about the people that are texting and driving and all of a sudden look up and they are crossing the middle lines ...... if they saw the vest they could react much quicker than if they couldn't see you. Many people are just so preoccupied these days, everything we can do to protect ourselves helps.
I walk a chocolate doodle at night.I have a bright light up collar on her.I also wear clip on lights a white jacket and I have a flash light and my hand held pepper spray. I use a leash that "wraps" around my upper body to keep both arms free.
I know that Jordan and I cant be seen at night with out it. I wrote a review on the collar.
I use Flashing LIghts around my arm but I really like the idea of a lighted leash in one of the other discussions Where did you get that leash Doris???
Hi Sue,
I got this leash, actually we are on our second one, at Anderson's General Store. I kept the directions for changing the battery and it says: Nitelze.com. Hope that helps!
I noticed Petco has leashes that are reflective, pretty pricey though. I was going to buy one. I also went to Joanne Fabrics and Crafts and got reflective tape to iron on our jackets!
Awesome thanks for everyone's help! I have an interview in an hour..and after that, I'm on a hung to find what we need...We'll be lighting up the road! :)
I just opened up my monthly newsletter from HomeAgain.................... The microchip website. Included in this months issue are hints for walking your dog late at night.
