Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

As per my blog post published last night (http://www.doodlekisses.com/profiles/blogs/welcome-home-winston), I've brough home a new doodle. He's 5 years old and He's sweet as can be, oh so affectionate and gentle. His name is Winston. I like the name, but i don't love it. I was thinking I might give him a new one to signify his fresh start. I sort of feel like the old name carries the baggage of his old life of neglect with it. It would be nice to give him a new name to signify his new life of love and happiness. However, I'm worried a new name will confuse him and will add more stress during this time of transition. He's already quite sad about what happened to him.

What do you guys think? New name or keep the old name? If new name, any thoughts or suggestions?

sorry, I made some spelling edits to the blog and now it is awaiting re-approval. It should be back up soon...
Now you know why I almost always write discussions : )
and thanks. I'm really glad I didn't get another puppy though, because now I was able to help this guy.
Winston is really glad, too!

I think it is fine to change names. My dogs have lots of nick names and anyone could be their call name if I wanted. But then I'm very fond of the name Winston , plus there are less Winston's out there in the dog world it would seem. I haven't run into one yet. Only talked to people who have had a Winston in the past. sorry couldn't seem to paste Winston's picture into the reply

Good luck you will have fun finding the right name

He is adorable, I like the name Winston. I think even if you keep his name, with all the love you give him, he will soon forget about his past. I also think is is great that you rescued him :-)
What an adorable face!!! I tried to find your blog post about him, but no luck? I must be doing something wrong. At any rate, I can't even figure out a name for my own puppy, so I can't help you there! But I hope to read your blog soon and bless your heart for rescuing Winston.
Thanks Kate. it's back up now! I had edited it so it was off line for a bit.
He's so cute!!  I love Winnie.  My Seda comes to her name and her nicknames, "Bug" and "Pumpkin" and Webber comes to "Baby Boy" (poor guy) so I think Winston/Winnie will come to the tone of your happy voice.  He is a lucky doodle to have found you and surely will be easier than training a puppy!
The general consensus is that we all love the name Winston and it seems to suit him, but if you would like to name him yourself, go ahead. Sometimes re-naming helps us claim our ownership and you certainly deserve the honor of re-naming if you wish.

Awe, thanks Nancy. I've tried a few other names and  it doesn't seem to work, so i think Winston it is. DK has spoken! and so have all the people I've met while out and about walking him in the past couple days.

I'm calling him Winnie a lot, and comes with a smile so I think that's his nick name. Sophie-Bear and Winnie-Pooh :) (and her royal highness Princess Penelope the Kitty of course).

Great decision, Sherri!
