We go to the vet next Saturday, at which point Toby will have his first heartworm test, and then we will buy some heartworm meds. The vet tech recommended Revolution as it will cover fleas, ticks, and heartworm. Any opinions as to what is the best option? Currently I think probably we'll go with Revolution.

Stupid question - is it better to be regulated by the FDA or the EPA?
Well, they really serve two completely different functions. The FDA is The Food and Drug Administration...they regulate food & drug products. The EPA is the Environmental Protection Agency, and they wouldn't have anything to do with the safety or production of the product itself, to my knowledge, other than the way it would inpact the environment.

From what i can tell, the FDA doesn't regulate any of these products, including Revolution. That seems to be the point of the article.
In the comments section Dr. Khuly notes that Revolution is regulated by the FDA.

Here is her comment: “Yes, it's true that Revolution is regulated by the FDA. That's why I didn't list it with the rest. I'm not exactly sure why that's so, but my guess is because selamectin (the ingredient in Revolution) has direct competitors in ivermectin and milbemycin (in Heartgard and Interceptor, respectively). It therefore makes more sense for the regulators to consider it a drug, despite it's topical route of administration”

There is also a list of the products and related deaths/major events in the comments section.
Again, I don’t know how reliable this information is. Just food for thought.
