Ok so I thought we passed the giardia and coccidia stage a after 3 weeks, Roger finally had normal poops. And much to my surprise, the diarrhea is back! We are headed to the vet for the second round of shots and the check up so I'm pretty sure our giardia test will come back positive. We have the loose stool and that damn stinky smell again. Oh when is this going to end? I was very OCD about cleaning up the poo and his bum and paws. He goes on puppy pads out on my patio so I always picked up and changed the pad. Anyone know how long, we should be battling this? Thanks. I just feel bad for him. It's got to suck for him :(

Oh that poor fella.  I haven't dealt with this issue but luckily many here are much more knowledgable that I am but wanted you to know Stanlee and I are thinking about you guys and hoping this all ends soon.

(Actually, I almost replied with an "Are you $%!**!&% me but thought that was in poor taste so......HUGS!!!)

Poor Roger and poor you.  I will send good thoughts your way and hope that this all clears up soon.

Boy can I sympathize.  Tigger took about 4 months and two rounds of medicine as a puppy to really get his intestinal track back together.  It has been six weeks and one round of medicine for Tigger this time around (nearly five) and his poop is still often loose, but rarely completely formless.  It is a messy stinky trial for everyone.  Tigger is the least affected, I think,  a few off days right in the middle of the medicine stage, but that's all.   Still pretty stinky gas sometimes though!

Just keep on keeping on.  I still have Tigger on over the counter probiotics after finishing the fortiflora from the vet.

If you have been giving pumpkin to help with the runs, now gradually withdraw the pumpkin over a few days.  Pumkin works both ways  to firm up and to loosen up.

Thanks guys! Well the vet said the coccidiosis gone and so are the roundworms from the first visit and Toger's ears are good. He had a bit of a yeast infection when we brought him home but the giardia is still there. I guess it might have been a pretty heavy infestation the first time around because the test came back positive even before the timer went off on the last visit. So for now we are back on panicur, proectelin paste and a GI diet along with the fortiflora. We've been doing the pumpkin and I tapered off so I suppose I will add it back in. The good news is he doubled his weight, so he's a little over 8lbs now so I suppose I all in all things could be worse. Hopefully the poop will start to look a little bit better soon, it just kills me to see the watery poop come out of him. Although, he doesn't seem bothered by it at all so that's a bit of a blessing. I hope Tigger gets better real soon!

Good news that the long list of ailments is getting shorter.  I hope this round of meds takes care of the rest.

Im sorry you are going through this...we had our share of diarrhea as well..giardia is a pain to get rid of.  What type of GI diet is he on?  The RX foods sold at the vets office are not quality ingredients, same thing with the fortiflora. Please read this article that Karen wrote:

and join The Food Group here on DK.  There (unfortunately) are many others that have been/are in your position..with this diarrhea that seems to come and go.  It is unfortunate that these poor pups have to go through this.  It is important that Tiger is on a probiotic, the good bacteria in his gut needs to be restored from the numerous rounds of antibiotics that he is/was on.

IIRC, our doc prescribes this for Giardia and Worms:
* 10 days of Panacur-C
* wait 2 (or 3) weeks
* 1 dosage of Drontal Plus

It costs a bit more than just the Panacur, but it's cheaper than another visit + fecal tests + another round.  It just works.

Cleaning their paws and bum is important.  It's also important to keep them busy so that they don't try and lick anything back there too.  I'd wash the dog's bedding and clean out the cage + bowls with bleachy water.  I'd also spray down the patio area.

Thanks Nate! I'll definitely let the vet know about that. He's on panicur for te next 7 days. We had squirts diarrhea yesterday and early this am but we are bac to normal today so far. Hopefully it stays that way. It's definitely better than when he came home to us at first because he was pooping like 12 times a day and today it seems to be the usual 4-5 :) I spray the deck with a bleach/water solution even though he goes on the puppy pads and we wipe the paws and bottom every time he comes back in even if he just pees. It's my 9 year old daughter's job and she gets a kick out of it. And of course if he steps in it or its messy he gets a full out bath but he is much better about not doing that now that he's 11 weeks versus the first couple of weeks. I'm just glad we got the house training going. He definitely won't poop in the house and we are working at the pee. We are down to only 1 maybe 2 accidents a day. I'm trying to keep my patience lol. Thanks! And yes we are definitely glad that we have overcome all the other stuff and hopefully will be healthy and parasite free on our next visit. Crossing my fingers :)
