Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I tried to search for info on this issue, but the search features seems to work for names, not discussions.  I don't exactly know how to say this other than to spit it out.  Rua has started humping!  Big time.  With extreme enthusiasm.  It started about 3 or 4 days ago.  I let her have her Petsmart Puppy to play with since she has yet to distroy or "destuff" a toy.  She started dragging it all over and then before I knew it, she started humping the stuffed puppy.  RUA IS A SHE!!!!  It was one of the reasons I got a girl dog.  I didn't want humping, marking, leg lifting, lipstick!

She is just 5 months old, has been spayed, I am not sure how to handle this.  Did I mention she does this with extreme enthusiasm.  She literally ends up with the top of her head on the ground (almost like she is going to do a summersault) and goes to town.  I have been tempted to take a video, but I don't think it would be appropriate to post it.  I do have to admit that it causes me to laugh out loud...it is so funny it is hard to be mad, but I would like to put an end to it.

Is this just temporary?  Should I interrupt and redirect?  Should I not let her have her Puppy?  Should I get her a room?

Help!!!

UPDATE::::::

Please..do not spread this around the internet...I don't want my little girl to be thought of poorly.  Remember all that you have read...it is just about dominance...this is the only thing she is bigger than.

This is a dominant behavior often and not sexual. I'd let her know in no uncertain terms, with time out or corrections that you will not tolerate her doing this to you. Humping the stuffed animal, not so important. She is the alpha of that pair.

I think she's only doing it to the stuffed animal.

And it's definitely a dominance issue, nothing sexual about it at all.

Whoops, I reread the post and it is only the puppy. Don't see the harm in that. Luca does this sort of thing with Calla and it gets annoying. I tell him "No Humpty Dumpty". Not sure where I came up with that but he'll usually cut it out.Sometimes I wish Calla would be a bit more assertive with her little squirt older brother.
I think "Humpty Dumpty" is a very nice term for it! Maybe you've just coined a new DK phrase!
Hah!
haha that is definitely nicer than the words I use when Kirby humps Dex...

Nothing like being late to the dance but I missed this discussion.

Jeannine calls it the 'Humpty Dance'.

Hah...that is the exact term I have always used!!!!!!
Too funny. GMTA (great minds think alike).

LOL...at least you will NOT have any red rockets or lipstick ;-)

None of my females have ever humped EXCEPT once or twice Thule tried humping a big stuffed bone (stuffed as in 'stuffed animal' type toy).  But this bone has been put away for ages because all our dogs are capable of destuffing it too easily.  But yeah....it was so weird.  She'd NEVER done that to anything and then suddenly she met this big big stuffed bone and went to town!

I grew up with a very dominant female poodle who Humpty Dumptied on a regular basis; her preferred victims were throw pillows.
Oh my...cute little Rua????  I just knew she couldn't be 100% perfect forever!!!  ha ha   Seriously, I luckily have not had to deal with this issue with my Gracie.  Though our male Lab that we had before Gracie liked to Humpty Dumpty my DHs leg!!!  He also had a Stage 3 Rocket that was totally embarrassing!!!!  No more males for me!
