The breeder where I bought my Doodle from has been arrested on sexual assault charges. I'm so sad and angry at this news. He seemed like such a competent breeder with a great knowledge regarding this breed. Its all over the news. Maybe the allegations are not true. UGH!

We had discussion about this last year when they were arrested for animal cruelty....some were very protective about them...it doesn't feel right and it didn't then either.
These the people that were in the news a few years ago, using their breeding program to teach their foster/adopted children responsibilty. Yes there was a discussion last year. It did seem as I had read about them before.
Here's the original discussion. When the story first appeared, I thought this couple was doing a good thing and had the right motivation. After more and more was learned it became frightening. They abused the children and the dogs. The whole thing is just tragic. I understand how you must be feeling.

I'm with Lisa, this situation has never felt right to me.

Looks like those of us who had negative feelings about this situation were right after all.
Dana here is some info from the original story. Many of us on DK would define animal abuse differently then government agencies. I'm afraid we are much less tolerant! Keeping 50 dogs in an inadequately ventilated basement with urine and feces odors to the point of overwhelming would fall under abuse in my book.
The reason the charges were dropped was because he completed his probation in regard to this issue. That doesn't mean the charges were without merit.
SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT
A story on Page 1 Friday about George Harasz of Glastonbury, who cares for troubled children and breeds dogs, did not say that Harasz is on probation for a misdemeanor charge of cruelty to animals.
Harasz was cited Dec 16, 2009 after Glastonbury's animal control officer went to his home and found about 50 dogs in the basement. The room had inadwquate ventilation and the smell of urine and feces was overwhelming, police said. Harasz's kennel license allowed him to have 10 dogs, police said.
Harasz was cooperative with the animal control officer and took immediate steps to correct the problems. Harasz told police that he was breeding the dogs and did not expect all of the dogs to get pregnant and deliver their litters at the same time.
In court, Harasz was granted accelerated rehabilitation, a form of probation. If he successfully completes the probation, the charge will be dismissed March 25. Harasz said Monday that he was in the process of cleaning the room where the dogs were kept when authorities visited his home.
I feel terrible for you Dana. Don't get me wrong, the welfare of dogs is very important to me, but in this situaiton my major concern was for the welfare of the children. It just seemed completely irresponsible to place that number of troubled kids in a family home. I pray for those children.
I am so sorry to hear this. Its such a shame for all the children who are abused or are being abused and people who may know or may suspect something keep quiet for a reason I will never understand. I'm sure some of you have heard about Penn State and what they call the cover up. But anyhow, this hits home for us because we live 40 minutes from State College (are huge Penn State fans). It turns out that one of our home town boys is victim #1 but when you read everything this has been going on for over 10 years and people knew even the mother suspected something, I just don't understand. Maybe I shouldn't type this here but it just hit a spot in me. I pray for all the abuse to children and animals to end!
Here's a link to their website. It looks like they have three litters due at any moment. This makes me wonder who is taking care of these moms and the other dogs now....they're in jail and the house in foreclosure. I would guess Animal Control is involved, but I don't know how they manage these situations. It appears the children are now in foster situations, and they were able to keep the siblings together. So sad...
This turns my stomach. Everything about it is just sickening.
