Science Diet Weight Loss System

Has anyone tried the Science Diet Weight Loss System? I was wondering if it really produces results. Hercules has been on a diet for over 3 years now, but is still overweight. He's 82 lbs. and only gets 2 cups of food per day, so reducing his intake any further is not an option. I will, of course, get the okay from my vet before changing his food again - certainly don't want another incident like what occurred last week. Due to his age and arthritis, Hercules is not very active at all, so I'm hoping the weight reduction will not only make him healthier, but also make him feel much better and promote mobility.

What is My Kid Trying to Tell Me?

I just fed Hercules and am not sure whether I should be jumping for joy or apologizing to him. I replaced 1/8 cup of his dog food with 1/3 cup of green beans. He ate . . . and left food in the bowl (about a 1/4 cup of beans AND dog food). He has NEVER left food in a bowl. Then he went out with Zeus to potty. I pulled the rest of the beans from the bowl and put them in Zeus’ bowl. Figured I’d give Herc the opportunity to eat the rest of his dog food without foreign objects.

When he came back inside, he walked over to his food bowl, looked down, sniffed, then walked over to me and started snorting (his way of trying to tell me something like “feed me”, “give me a treat”, or “I gotta potty”). I rubbed on him for a few minutes and now he’s resting on the floor. Hmm, did he get full or is he just ticked off at me?

Well, the verdict is in ... and I AM jumping for joy! Hercules likes the green beans and is even eating less dog food than the reduced amount I'm now giving him. This will hopefully get his weight down some before the cold weather sets in and aggravates his arthritis. Woo-hoo! Thanks for your replies, everyone, and the green bean suggestion. Now why didn't I think of that? LOL!
