Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi everyone! I'm so glad that I found this website!
My Goldendoodle, Buddy, is 7 years old and still my little baby! Early this morning, I was awakened by my mom because she saw that he was having what looked like a seizure. He was shaking, breathing heavily, and urinating. We took him to the vet who did all the necessary tests and everything came back normal. He didn't want to put Buddy on meds just yet, as it could be a one time thing.
Is this common among his breed? What are early signs that I should be aware of in order to tell if he's going to have another seizure? Are there any signs for that matter?
All help is appreciated!!
Thanks! :-)

I don't have any experience with seizures, but you might join the Seizure Group. I'm sure there is lots of info there that you might find helpful.
All of the parent breeds, Poodles, Golden Retrievers, and Labrador Retrievers, are subject to idiopathic epilepsy. http://ic.upei.ca/cidd/disorder/idiopathic-epilepsy
The members of the Seizure Disorders Group are very compassionate, knowledgeable and experienced, and will give you lots of help and guidance.
When Lucy was about 2, maybe 2-1/2 yrs old, she had what I can only describe as a 'walking seizure'. She would walk a few steps, stop suddenly, kind of flinch like something was right in front of her eyes and take a few steps back. Over and over again, for several minutes this went on. It freaked me out. I took her to the vet that day and the vet said something she'd learned in vet training was that all dogs are allowed 1 free 'seizure pass'. There are so many different reasons why a dog may have a seizure, and it may be a one time deal. In Lucy's case, there were several things that may have contributed to her having a seizure... Her daddy was gone on business (she is very bonded to him); her blood sugar was low because she hadn't finished her dinner the night before, nor had she had breakfast yet and we had walked by a man spraying his plants the night before. Anyway, the vet took a lot of tests on Lucy that day, and they all came back normal. I was told to take a video if it happened again, but it never did. Lucy is 3-1/2 yrs old now.
