Before I post a picture...which may be a long time because I can't bring myself to take one......does anyone have a picture of a doodle with SHAVED ears and tail???????

I can beat any groomer horror story you've got....promise!  I am so angry I can't begin to put into words what I am feeling without using numerous expletives.  Murphy had some matting on his tail and coat.  He swims quite a bit and they get worse everytime he gets in the water.  He went to the groomer today and I knew she would need to do some repair work on the ears and take his tail down very short.  I was worried about the tail but had accepted it.  I went to pick him up and he is cut exactly like a Schnauzer.  She shaved his ears and tail along with the rest of his body.  Not only are they shaved they are all choppy with some long pieces here and there.  It is the most awful thing I have ever seen.

Did I mention that my sweet Murphy now has SHAVED EARS and Tail??????

All I can do is cry.

I don't want to post a picture because it is so awful.......everyone here is so supportive and I know you would feel like being kind but it is impossible.  There is no way this can be fixed and there isn't a liar on the earth good enough to be kind about it.

I have never seen a doodle with shaved ears....have you?  Anyone?  Got a picture?

I am going to go back to crying and drinking now.

It's a good darn thing he is beautiful, his hair cut is not. Take him back and do not pay this guy another cent.Seriously the groomer should have at least taken the time to comb out the matts on his ears, it's not like it's that much area. Make him even up his head (including his face and beard) with his body. When he is even he will look 100% better, I venture to guess even cuter.

Sorry Rona, I won't say it will grow back fast, Daisy had a shave down in March, she is finally 2 inches, and yes, we brush her every other day now, lesson learned the hard way. However, Murph has way more hair than Daisy did. I believe the comment was meant like this....it is two weeks between having to have a shave down or a good cut. I waited 2 weeks too long to get Daisy a good cut and ended up with a shave.

On the positive side Murphy will LOVE his new doo, he will be cool and comfortable for the summer and his tail definitely will not be getting matted.

about the tail,  isn't that the truth!!

Oh, Ronna!  This is why we all need DK and our on-line friends!  Murphy is different looking, but totally healthy and ready to swim on a moment's notice.  You won't even have to think about how long you'll have to spend getting the mats out if he goes in the water every day!  I agree that it would balance out his head shape if you trimmed a bit (1/2ish) off of his beard hair.  I'd also take (and date)lots of photos to look at later.  You could know how long it took for his coat to regrow to a point where you liked it and it was reasonably easy to take care of...  Kind of a "Murphy Coat-Growth Time-Line"   Could you ever guess that I'm an old math teacher? :)  There's some fun in this thing.  Find it, and you are the winner!

Thanks Ellen, I will take lots of pictures...I just won't let anyone see them!

Thanks Suzann.  Maybe you could show Rosey pictures of Murphy and she will decide to put up with the brushing.

  • That's it!!!!  Murphy pictures can be the threat everyone uses when their doodles won't be still for brushing!  Kinda like the egg in the frying pan commercials when I was growing up...you know "this is your brain...this is your brain on drugs".     Hmmmm...or maybe it could be a picture of Murphy with the slogan "this is your groomer on drugs".  Or maybe "this is how your groomer drove your momma to do drugs"......
OMD Ronna...I was panicking from your panic but seeing his pic...IT"S NOT THAT BAD!.... I am worried Rosey will have to have the same thing done next time she gets groomed because her tail is so matted from all the swimming and everytime I try to brush her tail she Hates it!!  Now, IF it were me, I might want her face trimmed too just to even things out... now I am holding my glass to you ... CHEERS!!  Dry your eyes, this shall pass!  At least it is something time can heal:) {{hugs}}
It is pretty bad, but I agree with the others about shortening the beard and mustache and leaving the top.  I am sure you were in  shock and  paid anyway but you might  - when/if you ever calm down enough, call and complain that the cut was not only wrong (schnauzer) but choppy and uneven.  Of course you won't go back but they need to know that you resent paying for what was done to him without them calling you first.  This is the doodle we just got my mom at the shelter and he needed a 'shave down' but I think it is a better job and he was so matted that you couldn't even tell he was thin!
ya it just looks like you need to take matters into your own hands. We've had a few disastrous cuts with Lola...so bad that DH refused to take her for a walk one day because he was so embarassed. Just take some scissors and maybe even it up at the top and on his beard. It'll grow back before you know it! We always get Lola shaved right down (except the tail) in the summer because it's hot, but we're used to it....I would NOT be happy if I wasn't expecting it! I think evening it out would make things better. Or better yet, go back and complain...if she cares at all about repeat business she'll fix it up at no charge!
Hi Ronna. What an outpouring of support you have already received from this amazing website of ours. Firstly, I am soooooooooooooooooooo sorry. I know we rationalize it every which way but at the end of the day, it is a ghastly cut and it just makes you sad to look at them. I know from first-hand experience because this happened to my beautiful Frankie Girl quite recently. My husband and I actually felt, when we looked into her eyes, that  she too knew she looked like a "freak" with beautiful eyes. We were both too ashamed to take her out in public and it seemed like weeks, before it grew back, but grew it did and then the task of finding a reputable new groomer began. The old groomer, actually told me via email that I was a "bad doodle owner" when I told her I was going to put that a "blind person with scissors had hacked at my girl". Someone told me to camp outside the shop with my Starbucks and my sad looking dog with a notice saying "people beware" Ha ha. Well, I did none of these, but I did go on Yelp and gave a bad review and also on her own internet website. Don't know if it did any good but sure made me feel better. Anyway, onward.....and try not to dwell on it too much. Murphy is still gorgeous and his doodle cyber family love him just the same xx

This is Murphy's regular groomer...I talked to her this morning, we talked about the tail and I knew it was coming down but wasn't expecting the choppy mess.  We discussed the ear mats and we even discussed shaving the mats on the ears...clearly we were not communicating...I didn't say shave the entire ear!  Maybe it is just me but I am pretty sure she had to have known this wasn't okay.  I mean it's not like this is the first time she has ever groomed him. She is a very, very sweet girl and I know she would be willing to fix what she can fix she just didn't leave a lot to fix!  Kind of sucks because she is located in my vet's office, which is the only reason I didn't show my ass in there this afternoon.

We will for sure be looking for a new groomer.  The positive side is we won't be needing a groomer for a really long time because he has no hair left!

Thanks again everyone for your support, suggestions and honesty.   You all are the best!

Need I say more?
Bless his heart.  Is there any way to trim/shape it to a point?  I can't understand why she would just chop it off at the end.  I wish I could fix it for you.  Fortunately, in two weeks Murphy will be scruffy and adorable.  He is such a sweet boy.
It looks like she groomed him with her teeth.  Okay..I think I am drunk enough to laugh now.  He is curled up beside me asleep and has no idea people all across the country are laughing and crying for/at him.
