Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi Everyone-
My family and I are looking into getting an F1b goldendoodle and wanted to inquire about people's experiences with these dogs and shedding ?!?! Please let us know.
Many Thanks

You are not kidding....LOL!! That is why I keep Fudge's coat so short :)
and mats and mats and mats. But I will NEVER cut Ned's coat so short again. I hate it and would rather brush. There must be a happy medium.
Lexi and Billy are both F-1. Neither Goldendoodle sheds, there is some hair in the brush when we brush them. Hair loss is minimal. Never a gaurantee tho.
LUCKY!!!
I have a multi-gen Australian Labradoodle and he does not shed but he needs lots of grooming which I do myself. I started getting him used to being brushed and handled right from the word go and he is used to it by now. A good breeder will tell you the truth about what to expect and I think seeking out a top quality breeder is the best way of not only getting a healthy doodle with the right temperament which suits your family but also the coat types in their puppies. Good luck with your search and do check the 'what to look for in a breeder' group here on DK.
I have an F2 goldendoodle that doesn't shed at all. No hair in the brush or when we bathe her. She is the best dog ever. Our breeder is about an hour from you. I tried to send you a message but it says we have to be friends first. I sent you a friend request. I don't think we are allowed to post breeders in the public forums.
I have an F-2B (standard) and I suppose you can increase your chances of non shedding if the B is more with the poodle side. We chose a pup with a curlier coat and she doesn't shed at all. Our breeder recommended that if we wanted a better chance of non shedding. Having said that, I have talked with littermates that are not as curly and they too don't shed. Our pup is about 66% poodle side and 33% golden. Awesome dog.
What concerns me about this is the word "chance".
IMO, if there is any chance that a dog will shed, and the owner cannot live with that, then they should not consider the dog, period.
Because the only "chance" that really matters when considering the ownership of a dog is that there be no chance that the dog will have to be rehomed because of something like shedding.
Standard poodles are pretty cool. And quite often the F1b goldendoodles are the spitting images of poodles, so looks wise you've got the same thing. That said there are less poodley doodles that don't shed, but you can't predict that with certainty.
Daisy is an F1b Goldendoodle - she took after her standard poodle dad for sure - not a hair sheds but watch out for the matts I tell ya. We run a brush through her every other day. As she gets older (2-1/2) it's far less matting, or maybe it's because we brush so much.
As so many others have said, no guarantees. I have two F1B brothers (same parents, different litters, genetically brothers). One doesn't shed at all but maaaaaaaats so quickly and so badly that I've taken to just snatching him bald. I'd be brushing him daily otherwise and I'd rather do other things with him. The other has a double coat and will shed as much as a Golden. Less matting, more doodle-bunnies to sweep up. Lachlan's personality is VERY Standard Poodle while Declan's is more Golden Retriever. Lach is built like (and has the personality of) a Standard Poodle while Dec is much more Golden Retriever. I call 'em my Chocolate Box Dogs ... with the genetics of a mixed-breed you can't necessarily predict what you're going to get. If you're really bothered by the idea of shedding the Standard Poodle is a great choice. I wouldn't trade my guys for the world but I knew going in that I might get any combination of the above.
