Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

While in the midst of wrestling between a Goldendoodle or a Schnoodle and trying to find a breeder, I recently discovered that sheepadoodles exist. I had an OES years ago, she was from an amazing breeder and had the best personality, so I am intrigued. I found some posts on DK but no real details. I would love to hear about the personality and temperment and whether the grooming is equal to that of a goldendoodle. Grooming the OES was very demanding because of the double coat daily brushing was a must to keep matts away.

There aren't a lot of them and fewer from responsible breeders.  I'm sure it is similar to a GD/LD in coat.  With the few we have on DK, it would be hard to draw a conclusion about all OES-poodle mixes.

I would imagine the coat of an Old English crossed with a Poodle would be a nightmare.
It's probably similar to Loki's, he's a bernedoodle, and it took a lot of help from the grooming group and going through a ton of brushes that didn't work to find a routine for us. I currently put in about a half hour daily and anywhere from an hour or two on Saturday or Sunday for brushing alone. It's not that his coat is super curly it's just so incredibly thick. Part of it is me too because I like him to have longer hair and more of that fluffy bear look so naturally it takes more time to manage. Who knows maybe the coats are totally different, I've never met a sheepadoodle, and obviously each individual doodle is different as well.

It isn't.  They go through a coat change just like the GD/LD.  I brush my sheepadoodles about 2 to 3 times a week.

Oh my yours are so cute!!

Thanks Jessica, they are wonderful dogs!

I think they are a cross of GS/Poodle

Ron the names get mixed up.  But most sheepadoodles are OES crossed with poodle, though, yes there are also German shepherd-poodles crosses being bred too.  I think the spelling is different: Old English Sheep dogs are Sheepadoodles.  German shepherd-poodle crosses should be 'Shepadoodles' , but they are not really anywhere near as established as GDs and LDs so there isn't consistency in name.

No, there really are Sheepadoodles and I have had one ordered for a while.  Probably will get him later this year.  I am getting it from the same breeder where I got my Goldendoodle many years ago.  The goldendoodle had a wonderful coat and I hope the sheepadoodle is not too hard to groom.  Here is a photo of a sheepadoodle from the Carmel Poodle Days in September.

I have  a friend with two of them. I will message her and ask if she can respond to your questions in this discussion

That would be great, Thanks! Not getting any feedback from actual owners. If she can give breeder info that would be great too. The breeder I was considering bred the dam at 9 months old and I'm not comfortable with that at all.
