Should we get an x-ray?

Three days ago my nephew came to visit.  The evening when he got home, he called and told me that he lost a small plastic toy which shaped like a screw.  It is around 3/4 inch long, and 3/4 inch in diameter on the screw head.  I remember seeing him taking it out of his bag and left it on the dining table before we went for a swim in the pool.  DH said when we left the apartment, he caught K counter surfing the dining table.

 

It has been three days and still no sighting of the toy.  We are beginning to worry that K might have ingested it.  Both furkids seem normal, ate, play and toilet as usual.  But we are constantly thinking that the toy in somewhere in K's intestine and might cause an obstruction soon. 

 

Should we get an x-ray?

I would talk to the Vet to see if he/she thinks an X-Ray is warranted.

My opinion is that your doodle should be able to pass (or would throw up) an object that size so I would not x-ray but would keep a close eye on him. If he stops pooping or starts crying a lot I'd get to the vet right away.

You have to do what makes you comfortable and may want to call your vet to be sure.

Watch for the following signs:
vomiting
diarrhea
very low poop volume
loss of appetite
lethargy, or general change in behavior/mood
If you notice any of these, I would call the vet.
And as disgusting as it may seem, watch his poop. This is one advantage to always picking up the poop as soon as it is deposited, lol. You may very well "find" the object.

We just took them out, they walked, pee-d and poop... everything still looks normal. They ate their kibble and now enjoying their pressed bones.

I know if I were to call the clinic (done that before), the standard response from the vet tech is "get the dog in for a check." So I think we will just watch them closely for now...

He could have dropped the toy in a car, on the street as he went in and out of the car,etc.... I hope it turns up somewhere...

I just got a call from my nephew, he was so relief and excited to tell us that he found the plastic screw, it was mixed in with his Bionicle toy in another bag! Phew! We will be sleeping better tonight.

Glad to hear it!! Our naughty doodle Dexter has eaten so many things so I know the concern having to watch them. It's good to know you won't have to sift through your doodle's poop - that is always fun :)
