Any suggestions will help. Yesterday Mikey was completely normal and healthy. We went to my in laws and I didn't realize that their home was no where near puppy proofed. He immediately grabbed a piece of ham and ate one bite of their dogs food but I got it off the floor very quick. Unfortunately I found him in a spare room that had just about everything under sun on the floor from rubber bands to small toys. Now, Mikey is very bad at eating things he shouldn't but at our home we keep everything away that could harm him. He has a major problem with socks. He ate 3 of my kids socks but passed them all last week. Now, I watch my kids closer and make sure all socks are accounted for. Anyway, my son took off his socks without me knowing and one came up missing. Well I already knew Mikey ate it. He was only out of my sight a minute before I realized the disaster on the floor and got him. He was fine the rest of the day. This morning he didn't want to eat at all which is not normal at all for him. I thought maybe he just got into something. I took him out and he pooped out the sock that he ate yesterday. He isn't vomiting but very lethargic. Doesn't really want to do anything. Unfortunately my car is getting fixed and I wont be able to take him to the vet until tomorrow morning. They have no poison or anything that he should have gotten. Any suggestions please

Unless you are 100% certain that he didn't eat anything other than that one sock, he really needs to see a vet. There is nothing you can do if there's another foreign object in there, or if he ate something that is toxic to dogs. (Doesn't have to be "poison" as we think of it...sugarless gum can kill a dog). You've been very lucky with the socks, they don;t always come out so easily. Dogs have died from ingesting a sock, others have required $3000 worth of surgery. And if he did ingest a rubber band or anything that could cut off the blood supply to part of his intestines, that can be life-threatening.
Inducing vomiting at this point could cause more harm than good. Is there a friend or neighbor who could help with transportation?
I agree with Karen--please get him to a vet as soon as you can, and keep us updated.
I called his vet and they said try to feed him again and watch him to make sure he doesn't vomit. He actually ate all of his food. He didn't want to drink anything. They said monitor him very close tonight and I have an appointment first thing in the morning. Now if he does vomit I need to take him straight to ER vet.
I hate to be an alarmist but maybe someone should link the stories of Socks and Toys and bowel obstructions to this discussion :(
P.S. find an NEW vet today! ASAP
If my puppy would not eat or drink.........
Okay, sorry, I did not read your post correctly. I am really wishing though, the very best for your puppy and that you have too and relieving news soon
He is so much better. I am not sure what happened. He is up running around and drinking. He hasn't ate yet. That is the only thing that worries me. He is on TOTW pacific and on Friday I was going to transition back to acana singles but I really don't think it could be the food. He never vomited. He is back to his silly doodle self. Thank goodness!!! I just need him to eat and I think we will be good.
Thanks for your kind words
great news! Glad he is back to normal. Keep an extra close eye on him. My dog now, carries socks all over but does not eat them. He is just fine but as a puppy, he did get a few
Well, he started acting normal last night and drinking but still wouldn't eat. Woke up a few times in the middle of the night like he needed to poop but didn't. He wouldn't eat but one bite this morning, He pooped finally and it had some weird little black things in it and it looked like tons of hair. I have no clue. They did an xray and didn't see any large obstruction. He was dehydrated and they said he intestine were inflamed. Probably from what he had already eaten and passed and he also had tons of gas. They gave him the IV fluids in his neck so it can last all day. He got a shot for nausea and a famotidine shot for his stomach. They gave him metronidizole for 10 day and floristor for 10 days, They also gave me the Hill I/D turkey to start mixing with his food for a few days. They said if he vomits at all I have to come back for a barium study. AHHHHHHH
Oh No! Wow. Sorry to hear this news. I hope things start to change really soon for Mikey
Hope he starts to feel better.
