Where does your doodle sleep? What is the most recommended sleeping arrangements? i.e.. in crate, out of crate, on pillow, in separate room...

When Teddy was a puppy (from 3 to about 10 months), he was always tethered to a nearby object unless we were playing with him or he was in his pen/crate. He was tethered with his bed and plenty of toys to play with. So at that age, he never had the opportunity to try and jump on the furniture or put his paws up on it. As he matured and got more freedom, he just didn't try it because he had never been allowed up there. If he did put his paws up, we said "off". If he kept doing it, he would be tethered or put in a down-stay, once he learned that command. If Pono is doing it when you're on the couch, I think it could be because he's just too young to understand the boundary and wants to be with you. If he's jumping up on the furniture when you're not sitting on it, you could try a loud noise (like throwing a can of pennies to the ground) to startle him when you catch him jumping up and say "off" at the same time.
Thanks for the advice!! He is getting pretty good about not putting his paws up when we sit down now, but he still does it when we are not on the sofa, so maybe we'll try the loud noise to distract and redirect. Thanks!
Teddy looks like he wants in! :) So cute.
Aw teddy needs a bed by the door!
I hope to get him one soon! He's chewed up two beds (luckily he doesn't eat it, just shreds the stuffing). I'm thinking soon he may be ready to try a bed again though :) But he does also enjoy sleeping on the tile floor when he has the run of the house.
Sadie was crated at night until about six months (I think--it's all a blur.) Now she sleeps on the floor, either at the foot of the bed or on the side closest to me. She usually gets on the bed with me early in the morning--if it's cool enough in the room and I don't want to get up yet. She likes the bed most when she can have it to herself!
That's JD, too! He lies on my bed all day and then when I get in, he gets out!
All three of mine were crated as young pups. About the age of two I started letting them sleep in the kitchen. When nothing was destroyed in there, they moved on into my bedroom. Three big dog beds around my bed,and my biggest Doodle sleeps with me.They all have the run of the house now because they all will be four years old and are very good.
Dougie sleeps in his crate, downstairs, for now. During the day I let him nap where he wants to and he prefers sleeping on the tile floor in the laundry room. I've been toying with the idea of leaving his crate door open at night but thought that the timing wasn't right...trying to sell a home...so not a good idea to experiment, LOL!!
Crush is 4 months old and slept in the bathroom in our bedroom, which had a baby gate at the door. Now that she is fully housebroken we don't baby gate her anymore. She still stays in the bathroom and sleeps on the cool floor. She comes out and lays on the floor by the bed sometimes, but for some reason never tries to get into bed when we are sleeping.
Quincy starts off at the foot of our bed, on his own pillow. Sometimes he gets between us, but never lasts long. If one of us gets up during the night, he steals our place on the our pillow, but moves as soon as we give him the look. But at one point or another, he winds up on the shower floor on the nice cool porcelain! Today he dragged his blanket out of his crate into the den on the wood floor to cuddle with-there was a definite autumn feel to the temperature today, so we were guessing he was chilly!
After reading many of these posts, it's clear that as many doodles as there are, there are as many sleeping habits!
Charlie sleeps with me on the bed- he's not a cuddle-bug, so he's definitely not touching me at night- he's on the very far edge of the bed. We're both ok with it! I've mentioned this before, but he wasn't allowed to sleep on the bed unless he could get on and off by himself, and could go from 10:30 pm- 7 am without going outside. We moved directly from the crate in my room to the bed- he did have a choice, and he chose the bed.
I put a gate in front of the bedroom door at night to keep him in the bedroom. I don't like him on Security Detail overnight- he likes to sit at the top of the stairs and bark at whatever he might see out the windows.
