I have been toying with this question for sometime (about 6 months actually) about our Daisy. Right now Daisy is just days away from being 11 months old. She is 65lbs and sleeping....she sleeps a lot. I knew she would sleep a lot when she was a little puppy but by now I thought she would be less likely to be sleeping all day. DH jogs with her at a nice slow pace in the mornings for about 30 minutes, she actually trots much like the dogs in the show rings. When she comes in she plops down (and I mean plops) for about 10 minutes and then gets up, eats and then follows me around until we leave for work. When we get to work she runs around, greats everyone and may play for about 30 minutes...the rest of the day she sleeps, it is 2:30, I am looking at her sleeping. I have spoken with our Vet, her heart sounds normal, she came through her spay with flying colors (they did blood work and no red flags came up). She just sleeps so much. When she plays she is non stop. When we take her to the lake she swims for 1-1/2 non stop. When we play chuck-it in the backyard she plays with 2 balls and runs the entire time dropping one to fetch the other.
Oh yes one more thing, she has never ever had a wet nose...also told normal. We have had two different vets because I just wanted to be sure.
Are there any other doodles out there with the same or similar story? I really need to be assured in some way.
Daisy sounds like a calm, easy going Doodle. Want to trade? (Of course, I'm just kidding.) I've got one who rarely sleeps. Even at 10:00 at night he's trying to get me to play ball. I'm in bed at that point, and he's still shoving a yucky wet tennis ball in my face. He takes quick "cat naps" and then he's ready to "rock and roll" again. If she's been checked by the Vet and is in good health, it's probably just her temperament. Count your blessings!
Well I am not going to lie it is nice that she is calm and seemingly happy to just "be" just as long as she is healthy. When she came to us from the breeder she had hookworm, that took 3 rounds to the vet...and during this time I was concerned she had a bladder infection...no said the vet 2 times, well I was persistent and guess what, she had a rampant bladder infection, hence the vet switch. So I want to believe the new vet and he seems wonderful but I may just be jaded now which is why I am checking my other source - DoodleKisses. :-)
Wow, she has had quite a few problems though. Still, if tests are showing nothing is wrong now and you have had two opinions, I would think she is okay. She is eating normally, right?
She seemed perfectly healthy and I was distraught to say the least about the hookworm because it took so long to clear up. The bladder infection made me mad but it was a simple round of antibiotics to make her better. She eats 4 cups a food per day....she is not food motivated but rather play motivated. She really never had the typical "bad" puppy behavior, if there is such a thing. She crated easily, potty trained easily, slept through the night from day 2.
You are LUCKY! Seriously, some doods are just calmer. It also sounds like you make sure Daisy gets plenty of exercise - between the nice jog, swims and chuckits, she is getting all of her energy out and wants to rest at home. I would definitely rest assured since bloodwork and other tests are fine.
Max is now 2 yrs old and sleeps a lot - his routine really hasn't changed much from puppyhood. However he's always ready to go for walk, play ball, car ride whatever he's up for it. He loves to play and plays hard but if nothing's going on he'll sleep. He's sleeping under my desk right now :-)
I think you are fine. Allie sleeps most of the time while we are gone. I assume that is what she does as she does not get into anything. I think she sleeps/watches for most of the afternoon. I think Daisy is just fine. She sounds very similar to my Allie and I would not have it any other way!!
Yep, Tara is the same way. I actually researched dog sleeping patterns a week or so ago because I was concerned about her sleeping so much. I read they can sleep 14- 18 hours a day!! But if they have something to do they will do it otherwise, they just snooze. I guess from boredom. If Tara is sleeping and I say lets go do this or that she is up and ready to go. Otherwise she is napping. The amount of sleeping time varies with breed too and also if the dog has a job or not! It sounds like she is a well balanced girl. No worries!!
Darwin is over a year old and is still a big sleeper. He sleeps about 10 hours every night and naps all day. He is very inactive unless we take him outside to play. Even when we are playing fetch, or running around, he will only go for 30 minutes or so before he tires out and wants to go lay down. The time when he's most energetic is when he is playing with other dogs, and he'll play hard for a long time. Then he sleeps for 3 days straight.
As far as the nose thing goes... if she drinks water frequently then she is probably okay?
