The last two nights my 17 week old Bailey has slipped out of her harness. She goes outside to potty and when she is done she starts to go crazy. She starts bucking and pulling and before I can grab her she will have slipped right out. She walks great with her harness, she is actually a joy to walk, she doesn't pull or anything like that, but I'm so nervous that she is going to get spooked or something and take off. Does anyone have any suggestions on a collar that she can't get out of. When I walk her or take her out to potty now I look like a paranoid, crazy lady because I have her in a harness with a leash and her collar and another leash. I don't care that I look crazy as long as my puppy is safe. Any suggestions would be appreciated. UPDATE: I went to petco and purchased the halti harness. It has made a big difference! Thanks DK for all the suggestions, this group is so very helpful! !

I would simply use a collar and tighten it up until it doesn't allow the dog pull out. Obviously don't make it so tight that you choke the dog, but tight enough that it doesn't get out. I would also attempt to be proactive by giving a command before the dog becomes too excited and try to pull out of the lease. A preemptive sit command can go a long way. If it becomes a common occurrence, you can respond to it before it happens. Biggest thing I could recommend, though, is that you need to train and walk on the leash frequently. That way, the dog will be exercised and learn how to walk on the leash well. Remember...Exercise, Discipline, and then Affection.
