Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I am excited .. I will admit I feel down right wonderful.... Today a women posted on a FB page that she was giving away free puppies.. She has six.. The area in particular that she lives in is known to be a very high dog fighting area and puppies are used all the time for baiting.
On the website that she posted them on you are not able to post on there unless you are going to buy or take the "items" for sale.
I begged, pleaded and gave the girl my cell phone number... So many people wanted to take the puppies.. But because of what you all taught me on here about dog fighting and things like that.. and the importance of a good home.. I fought for those puppies and I won.. We won really..
There is an amazing huge rescue group here that will take the puppies, vet them, screen the families etc.. Because they are only seven weeks old they needed to be fostered in a home to rule out parvo and other thing.. The women at the rescue is going to take them in her home... SHe is one of many heroes..... I was already dressed and ready to go get the puppies the women told me I could have them and gave me her address and agreed to not give any away to the people for free.
Anyway the girl from the rescue Sara lives close to the women and is going to get them.. I really wanted to get them but.. Sara is going to call me tonight when she gets them and I am going to go over there .. since I am an RN... they are going to quickly show me how to do puppy shots and I will be vaccinating the puppies and in the future possibly doing work for the rescue group doing vaccines.. I am not sure I feel qualified to do it on a dog, humans yes, but they said they will teach me and that it is very similar.. I will see my level of comfort.
But The exciting part is six precious puppies no longer are at a high risk for being used for dog fighting.. I swear I credit my boldness to you all because I was never like that until I learned of all the dangers.
I am excited... hopeful and who knows maybe I can help with things down the road.
You all gave me the backbone to stand up for these precious dogs. I will take pictures of me with them when I get to them.... I am not sure if it will be tonight. or tomorrow night..
Yay my first time I rescued dogs and hopefully not my last....
Update...all six puppies were surrendered....it doesn't appear they are seven weeks..probably younger....the girl who gave them up didn't know much about them..the girl has three children under four and she can't be over 24 herself....her father dropped them off at her house and she didn't know what else to do....she was very grateful for the help......unfortunately the puppies do not look very well cared for and are going to be taken to the vet on call! They will get all the care they need at vet...then once cleared they will go to Palmetto Lifeline without any problem until they are ready to be adopted....
I will for sure go see them at Palmetto lifeline in Columbia and get pictures....or do anything they need....I am still going to do vaccination volunteer work and anything else as I can....as long as puppies don't pose a health risk to me....I will be seeing their cute little behinds in the next day or so.
I started to get overwhelmed because I saw so many other posts after that if people giving away dogs for no reason and I felt discouraged ...then I remembered the star fish story...and at least these six puppies are off to a better start!
Update two...their was more then six puppies in litter...the puppies were born underneath the fathers house....the mother was a stray..that never came back so dad pulled as many as he could out and dropped them off....the mother dog is missing...so either she was picked up by animal patrol or hurt I can't see a mom leaving her puppies.
UPDATE THREE.. I TALKED TO SARA THIS MORNING.. ALL THE PUPPIES ARE BACK AT HER HOUSE, THEY ARE NOT SICK, THEY APPEAR TO BE AROUND FIVE TO SIX WEEKS OF AGE.... SHE TEXT MESSAGED ME A PICTURE OF THEM AND FOR THE LIFE OF ME I CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET IT TO DOWNLOAD.. I JUST GOT A NEW PHONE SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 IF ANYONE KNOWS I WILL DOWNLOAD AND POST.... THE PICTURE SHE SENT OF ONE OF THE PUPS LOOKS SO CUTE. HE HAS BLACK CIRCLES UNDER HIS EYES AND REMINDS ME OF THE DOG FROM THE LITTLE RASCALS...I BET HE HAS SOME PIT IN HIM...AS ALMOST EVERY DOG IN SHELTERS AND RESCUSES AROUND HERE HAS PITT BULL MIX IN THEM SOMEWHERE.
SARA IS KEEPING THEM AT HER HOUSE FOR NOW....I WANTED TO GO TO HER HOUSE BUT SINCE THEY WENT TO THE VET LAST NIGHT AND ARE GETTING CARED FOR BY THEM WHICH IS WAY BETTER THEN ME GIVING THE SHOTS, THERE IS NOTHING MORE FOR ME TO DO... I CAN VISIT THEM WHEN THEY ARE READY FOR ADOPTION AND I AM MOVING FORWARD WITH THE VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS .... IT FEELS SO GOOD TO HELP, I I WISH I COULD DO MORE.. BUT THESE BABIES ARE IN GOOD HANDS .. REALISTICALLY I CAN'T FOSTER THEM OR ANYTHING, I AM GETTING READY TO GO TO CO AND PLUS THE RISK OF SICKNESS IS TOO HIGH.. BUT I AM HAPPY FOR A GOOD ENDING.
I DON'T KNOW FOR SURE THAT THESE DOGS WOULD HAVE ENDED UP AS BAIT, THEY WERE IN A WELL KNOWN AREA FOR THAT BUT NO ONE KNOWS FOR SURE.. BUT AT LEAST ANYONE WHO GETS THEM NOW WILL HAVE THEM NEUTERED OR SPAYED, VACCINATED AND A CONTRACT THAT SAYS IF THEY ARE EVER GOING TO GIVE PUPPY AWAY THEY NEED TO RETURN THEM TO THE PAWMETTO LIFELINE.
THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR SUPPORT.. I HOPE I GET TO SEE THEM BUT I DON'T KNOW IF I WILL AS THEY WILL BE READY FOR ADOPTION RIGHT AS I AM LEAVING FOR CO...
UPDATE THREE.. JUST SPOKE WITH GIRL, I AM SUPPOSED TO MEET HER TOMORROW TO SEE PUPPIES.. ONLY THING IS I AM NOT FEELING SUPER GREAT, BUT I FEEL LIKE I NEED TO GO SINCE I GOT HER INTOT HIS LOVELY PILE OF CUTENESS..
HERE IS ANOTHER PICTURE..... THIS ONE LOOKS SO DIFFERENT THEN IT'S LITTER MATES.. I GUESS I WILL GET BETTER PICTURES TOMORROW, BUT I AM PARTICULARLY IN LOVE WITH THIS ONE.....

Jennifer, I am so proud of you! I think this may be the next step for you... being involved in a rescue program in some way. With your love for dogs and your experience as a nurse you will be a wonderful asset to any organization. Congratulations!
I am not sure I believe it is entirely the same, I will have to see .. I have done a lot of pediatric patients before that were small and given them shots but I don't know that that qualifies me for a puppy vaccine and I would like to believe that the people giving Jack's shots were not just shown how to do it but that they understood the anatomy of the animals muscles and things like that.
Well it will give me something to study...
I have NO training and learned how to give the pups shots without an issue--you will be fine!
Jennifer, you can't be thanked enough...you are a hero, these puppies are safe! I can't wait to see the pictures :)
YOU ARE AWESOME !
No, really I am not.. I am just thrilled to make a difference.. I learned how important all this stuff was from you all. Otherwise I would have normally read that and kept on reading...
Really when I do for others it is sort of selfish because the feelings of joy that I get from doing are amazing. I love to be a helper and do.... and these days it is very rare that I get to do anything...
YES you are!! SO many just turn their heads and hope someone else will reach out to those who think listing dogs for free on an internet site their dogs will get a special, perfect home! You educated 1 and hopefully she will pay it forward and educate the next!
you go girl! your nursing skills will make you a natural with puppies!
Thank you, Jennifer....you're doing a really good thing for these puppies.
