I hope this isnt a repeat. But thought it was worth mentioning

The only peanut butter I give Annabelle is Jiff Natural. Now my husband is another story. He will give her the plastic peanut butter jar for her to lick from his store brand. I did check Kroger brand which is what he has now and it looks to be ok.
Well, it's kind of a repeat, lol, because we talked about it in The Food Group in June: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/thefoodgroup/forum/topics/xylitol...
Here are my thoughts about this product, reposted from that discussion:
Relax. This is about one brand of peanut butter spreads, Nuts 'N More, which is a specialty line designed to appeal to bodybuilders and sold only in health food stores, mainly GNC and Whole Foods. And while the fact that it contains Xylitol is not at all clearly marked on the label, at $10 per little jar (each jar contains only 28 TBS), I doubt this is something that any of us would be giving to our dogs...or our kids, either, for that matter.
There have always been sugar-free versions of common foods like peanut butter on the market, mainly for diabetics, and they all contain some form of artificial sweetener, including Xylitol. They used to be a separate section of the grocery store, I'm not sure if they still are. But I don't think they're mixed in with the Jif, lol.

thanks Karen, I will delete this post since it has already been discussed.
Hmm...I guess I cant delete it...I thought I would be able to since I started it.
You can't delete a discussion, even your own, once people have replied to it. All you can do is close it or edit it.
Some things need reposted weekly. This is crucial and should be brought up often. Thanks again, for this critical info.
Most posts I have seen are when dogs get into someone's purse or pockets and get sugar-free gum
Also, some human calming agents people use on dogs.
Since there have been recalls on peanut butter in the past, I make my own for Haley. I buy locally grown raw peanuts sold for human consumption; roast them and use a food processor to process them into peanut butter adding about 1 teaspoon of olive oil to a pound of peanuts. I store this homemade peanut butter in a glass jar in the refrigerator. I feel it can't be much safer than this.
Thank you for posting. Even though as Karen points out it is doubtful that any of us would feed (or buy) this peanut butter, it reminds us that we should always read ingredient labels - even on products we buy regularly as ingredients can change without warning.
