Sophie took my one year old grandsons sock off his foot and before I could grab her she swallowed it. I called my Vet and he happened to answer Thank God. He asked if she was on can food which she isn't so he told me to give her greasy food. The only thing I had was Heinz gravy. He told me she could throw it up or pass it through. I was so upset that I forgot to ask him how long it would take to pass and what to watch for as far as her being ok. I have heard of dogs eating things but this is a first for me. Has anyone experienced this that can tell me what to look for..:'( thanks, Denise

Update... This morning Sophie threw up Levi's sock and 5 minutes later threw up one of mine....!!!!!

I never saw her with my sock.  Yesterday my granddaughter dropped a plastic gift card and of course Sophie grabbed it and ran to her toy box.  We did find it at the bottom of her toy box.  I want to thank all of you for your advice and stories. I am afraid this is just the beginning of her eating frenzy!  Denise

My German Shepherd used to eat socks and bandages all the time (he would make hot spots and I would wrap him and he would always figure out a way to eat the sock or bandage off). 2 T. of hydrogen peroxide and he would throw the sock right up instantly. That is what my vet always recommended. But there were times that I would find bandages in his poop, too. Pretty much still intact.

It should pass soon. Huff always loves to steal the socks off our feet he is an expert at it.

Big coincidence here--I was just coming on DK to ask about almost the same thing--Rio (37 pounds, 10 months old) swallowed the last small part of a cow hoof last night--it went down but he was choking a bit. i tried to get it out of his mouth, but he had already managed to swallow it. This morning he ate fine, but just threw up a small part of his breakfast. I will have to keep an eye on him for a few days. I hope it passes thru OK--it will probably soften in his stomach, but not sure it will go thru.

I once had a terrier rip off a piece of 2 inch think foam from his dog bed (about 10 inches long by 5 inches wide) while I was at work. . I knew the piece was missing when I came home, but didn't think he swallowed it whole. Four days later, the entire piece came back up---ugh! How do they do that??
