Hi Marisa, here is a link to a guide on what to look for in a breeder. Please take these minimum requirements to heart and walk away from any breeder who doesn't measure up. The most important factors are proof of genetic health testing of the parents, and the breeder's health guarantee. With young children in the home, you will also want to look carefully at temperament of the parents and socialization of the puppies before they leave the breeder. Contrary to much of the hype you read, not all doodles are "great with kids":

Many, many dogs make great family pets, but training the dog and the children is really the key. Doodles and many other dogs are quite active as puppies. Sometimes this puppy stage is very difficult when you have small children, but with hard work and patience, you end up with a great family pet and the children learn how to live with dogs.
Marisa, join the Southern California group and come to our next get together. We usually meet up at Arbor Dog Park in Seal Beach. You can meet lots of doodles and find out where they came from.
I sent you a private message about a breeder I know out there--and Nancy's suggestion is great--getting to know people in the So. Cal group would be a great intro to the breed.
