I have am 82 inch area (dining room )that I need to find a sturdy fence with a gate that my dad can get through using a walker and will also keep my one year old grandson out also. My puppies crate will be in dining room on hard flooring. I have looked at flexi fences but it doesn't look sturdy. Anyone have any recommendations? No local pet stores had any that length in stock.

Is there another area of the house that would be better suited to gating?  Or perhaps you can buy an exercise pen for when you want him to have more room, but honestly, just having a crate can be fine and then keeping puppy on a leash the rest of the time until he's potty trained.
The kitchen is the only small opening in this home and the way its laid out there is no room for crate :( I am home all day so puppy won't have to be in crate for any long time. I am more concerned about my grandson not allowing puppy to have quiet time when he needs it. I have new carpet in living room so that is out until potty trained.
When puppy needs quiet time that quiet time can be accomplished in the crate.  If puppy is quiet and ready to nap, it doesn't really matter how much space he has.  What I mean is the crate is FINE for quiet time.

The ex-pen is great as you can set it up and puppy can be contained but not in a crate. Plus your dad wouldn't have to open or close it to get into dining room. Is that an option. Otherwise, Adina's idea.

We used a childs gate made out of plastic.  it is hinged, modular and will be flexible enough to fit any configuration and has a gate.  Check Craigs list. We bought ours there, not very expensive at all.
Thanks, Adina, Sue and Lee and Barb for your replies they were all helpful! :)

I used metal play yard ( North States  3 in 1 metal super yard gate) to block off the section of the house when Charlie was little.

It can become a octagon shaped pen, can be mounted on the wall, or just use to sectionout the room. It is made of 8 panels of metal gates connected and can be folded, bent, etc.... I was very sturdy and I really loved it. one of the panel becomes a door also. ( probably not wide enough for your dad, though...)

thanks, I see Wal-Mart sells them on line.
I have an octagonal pen as well. I got the 3 ft tall one (though now I'm wondering if I should have gotten the even taller one). I use it for when I need to do stuff around the house and I don't necessarily want to crate Cooper. He plays and sleeps in it and keeps him safe. I also make sure all his toys are in there so he learns what he's allowed to play with. I would definitely recommend. At first he totally whined and jumped up on the wall and I thought it was going to somehow fall apart but now he likes going in and will even go in on his own to take a nap.
Now that he has learned this is his barrier you won't have to worry how tall it is. We have had Golden Retrievers and now have two very large doodles and none of them has ever crossed our gates that are 24 inches tall. They could easily knock them over or jump them but they never have tried... even our little trouble maker.

You can find a lot more gates online some of the stores have many more options online. For your needs it sounds like you

would need the kind that hangs off the wall. Good luck!

Denise, I have the Kidco Configure Safety Gate.  It is the basically the same as the Kidco Hearth Gate with less extension panels.  Using something like this would allow you to gate off just a corner of the room, so your dad wouldn't have to worry about going thru the gate.
