Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello my goldendoodle puppy has VERY straight hair. She looks almost exactly like a golden retriever but her nose is a little bit pointier. She was shedding a lot between 12-16 weeks and now at 16 weeks she has slowed with the shedding but is teething like crazy. I am not sure if she is really a golden doodle? Did anyone ever have a golden doodle who looked like her and shed so much?

She isn't very doodley, but there are doodles that are only half poodle  that come out very retrieverish.  It's just how the genes fall.  Not all will be furry and doodley.  But since you're questioning her breed mix....did you get her from a breeder you trust or from a shelter or where?  (No need to name the actual breeder).  It's always possible a second sire getting in the mix.  But it's also possible she just came out this way.

There is a group for that

Maybe that will help.

It is possible for goldendoodles to have straight hair. What was the breeding? was one of her parents a 50/50 doodle and the other a pure bred retriever? that is what my doodle is and his coat is short but has some wave to it but he is only 7 months so it's hard to tell what his coat will look like when he is finished his growing and coat changes.

I wouldn't be so sure about the straight coat, their coats can go through many diffrent changes throughout their first year. Mine began to shed his puppy (fleecy) coat at 12-16 weeks too but then he began to develop a darker, more course strip of fur down his back and he has been starting to get some waves in his coat ever since.

Take a look at my pics.

She's so cute.  I think her ears are too furry for there not to be some poodle in there.
Whatever her lineage, she is so adorable!!
Whatever she is...SHE IS SO CUTE!!!  Her snout looks very poodleish to me(more pointed like the standard poodle) and she has very fluffy ears...so she may end up with a wavy coat that sheds a bit.  It is too early to tell.
Yep, she sure can be a doodle with that look.  What generation are her parents?  If they were both F1's or if one was a F1 and the other a F1b, she could get that look.  I had a double doodle (goldendoodle X labradoodle) that looked a lot like that.  My guess is that her coat will come in more, but she will always look more golden then doodle.
She is adorable!!
Your pup looks a lot like a pup my parents "puppy-sat" for a couple weeks.  She was an f2 goldendoodle with a fine bone structure and straight, flat hair.  She was a beautiful pup but not your typical goldendoodle look.  I saw a picture of her over Christmas (she's now almost 7 months old) and she is still a beautiful pup.  Her hair is a little scruffier looking but not curly.  I'm not sure of the level of shedding.  I also know of a full-grown flat/straight coated goldendoodle.  She is absolutely gorgeous, black with beautiful, silky hair - looks like a flat-coated retriever.  She does shed (similar to a golden retriever but without the undercoat) but her owner told me that they don't care.  They are so happy with the personality and intelligence of their dog that the shedding is only an incovenience.  Just FYI, the owner also told me that the "Furminator"? is an excellent tool to reduce shedding.
Remember that your Doodle is a MIXED breed, thus the genetice results are a "crap shoot".

Out of our 9 F1b (2/3 Poodle, 1/3 Lab) Labradoodle puppies, we had 7 poodly and two that looked like a yeallow lab and a black lab, respectively.  They still look like labs, at 20 months old.

You can never tell whith those recessive and dominant genes! LOL

Strangely (because it took me a while to wrap my mind around the numbers) F1b's are 3/4 poodle and 1/4 lab (by parentage, not actual genes of course). I still have to think about it awfully long to get it to make sense. And to think I used to be good in math!

My inlaw's F1 doodle (always has shorter cut because she sheds and they live at beach):
