Stuffy Danger??

Most of you saw Joanne's recent post after Spud and Starlit's collar tag loops became entangled resulting in a very near disaster. Being a one doodle household I was confident that this was ONE issue that I didn't need to worry about!!   That was until I walked into the living room the other day and found poor little Tara with one of her stuffed animals hooked into her collar/tags and dangling from her throat!! She was trying to walk but, being a mini, she was having a tough time navigating with this giant stuffy hanging in front of her.

 

I don't know how this would have played out if I had not been home. I know she would not have been able to eat or drink but I am wondering if this could have become a dangerous/life threatening situation? I've tried playing out all the possible scenarios in my mind...but I'm not sure.  What is your opinion? Has anyone else had anything like this happen with their doodle and stuffies or other toys?

Joanne, tell him he is missing out on a great new fashion trend! I saw a teenage couple the other day who were both dressed in black. He was wearing a thick leather dog collar with spikes which had a black leather leash attached. She of course was holding the other end of the leash. Basically taking him for a walk.  This could be a new look for you guys.

This also reminds me of Vern's attack from the grate, Spud and Starlit getting lips caught in tags.........

Years ago my Mastiff Pete, had a choke collar on that became caught in decking.  He was being so good laying out on the deck.  He was sleeping for hours and didn't even get up when a child came knocking for my son so I stepped out to check on him.  He was LOCKED down hard onto the decking.  Off came that choke and it still hangs in my garage today.

Oh, those choke collars can be nasty!!  Poor Pete was really stuck. Good thing that, once again, YOU were there to help him!! :)

It's true Camilla!! Miss Kitty used to be so nice to Tara but now she has turned evil. I guess I should have gotten her rabies shots!! Here is a picture of her pinning Tara down in her own bed!! As you can see Tara is terrified of her now!!

Poor little Tara, you just never know where the attack is going to come from.Quincy's attack came from the dishwasher rack, the loop on the tags straightened out and the rack came loose but not before he had dragged it across the kitchen. He no longer helps with the dishes. My question is if you are going to remove tags when they are inside, why not just remove the collar since has no indentifying info on the collar it's self. I guess if your dog it one that you need something to grab onto at times this wouldn't work but for others it may be safer. Tara, tell you mom you're not afraid of any silly cat!

Oh, not the dreaded dishwasher rack!! Poor Quincy must have been terrified!! Not to mention you lost your little helper!!  That's a good point about just removing the entire collar. I just like having I.D. on her all the time though. We are home most of the time and she is in and out of the front and back with us. Not always in a fenced area. I guess I am just paranoid but it makes me feel good to know those little tags are there!

I ordered one of the Boomerang tags and it arrived within a few days to Ireland, Is great quality and was, I think very reasonably priced.  I think anything dangling from the neck is a potential hazard especially with high energy Doodles.  That was certainly a scary  event and lucky you were there to untangle Tara from her stuffed animal!

After reading about the dangers of collars and tags, I ordered a Keepsafe collar from chinook & co for my dogs. I attached one of the Boomerang tags to them. I like my dogs to have ID on at all times in case of emergencies.The only downside to these collars is if you grab them and the dogs pull hard enough they will open. But at least I don't have to worry they will get caught in something. Recently, one of the dogs was sleeping on an air vent and his tags got caught and when he stood up it was caught on him. Luckily, I was right there to remove it. I hate to think of what might have happened had he panicked.
