So Lola is getting spaying on Friday, and I am so nervous. I probably won't want to leave her. I do not like the idea of any kind of surgery myself, so I do not like the idea of putting my "baby" through a major surgery. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what on should get during that period for Lola and/or what to ask the vet technician during the consultation before the surgery. Like on what procedure they use, medicine, how to keep her calm. What did you use to keep her from the wound (if you have a female)?
Also, the lady in charge of Lola's doggy day care told me to buy herbal calming treats during the week after to try to keep her calm? What do you guys think about this? Has anyone used these herbal treats after a surgery? I need opinions here.
Thanks everyone! Lola sends her licks and love to all the other doodles out there.
Hi Ali, Lily was spayed 10 days ago. My advice is to go ahead and get her fitted with the cone and wearing it right after... We got a cone from a friend- it was too big (plastic came out to far) and had to go buy one the next day... It all worked out but she licked her stitches, long story. Got the right cone, she adapted quickly and was fine. First day she was kind of pitiful, sleeping, being still without pain med. Vet tech told me that pain meds weren't recommended as the discomfort they do have "tells" them to stay quiet. As Georgia's mom said it is a little challenging keeping them quiet (after the first 4 days, impossible for us!!!:) We spent a lot of time on the floor playing tug and fetch. But even with a few zoomies around the house and jumping the vet said she was doing great at one week after surgery. I was surprised how easy the process was for her.. Very different than humans, thank goodness! I'm sure Lola will do great! Margo
