Hey all, just wondering if anyone else's dood is experiencing a summer-time lethargy?  Angel has been more -- i don't know -- down beat, I suppose.  She's sleeping more than usual and is not as enthusiastic about many things.  I wonder, is it because of the summer heat or should I be more concerned?  Thanks.

Peri has been more lethargic also - she sleeps more. I think it's a combo of two things: heat and humidity AND she is getting calmer. But she still gets super enthusiastic about things. Is Angel eating, wanting treats, etc...? I think if your gut keeps nagging at you that something is wrong, maybe call your vet?
Congratulations on Toby! When does he get to come home?
Summer heat in itself shouldn't cause a noticeable difference in indoor energy levels. Outdoors, a dog may not want to run around as much as usual, or may start panting & showing signs of being tired after a brief time, but if the house is cool, there shouldn't be a difference in the overall enthusiasm or energy levels. Once Jack cools off and has some water, he's usually his old self again pretty quickly.
Is it possible that Angel has been getting a lot more exercise than usual since the weather got warmer? Increased exercise in general might account for her being calmer or sleeping more than usual.
I agree with Allyson, I would keep an eye on her and if you notice a change in eating habits or general interest, I'd check with the vet.
Hot weather doesn't bother Guinness at all. His energy level shows no difference, whatever the weather is. Murphy, on the other hand, is a different story. Last week and over the weekend when it was really humid, he was a total "lump". Even though the house is air conditioned, he wasn't as energetic as normal (although he's never a "ball of fire"). Forget about going outside....he wanted no part of his normal walks. We would get half way, and he'd stage a "sit down". He wouldn't move until I headed him toward home. He just hates being hot. When we'd take him out to go potty (which was often because he was drinking crazy), he would get to the bottom of the deck stairs and go as fast as he could just to get back inside. In case you haven't guessed Murph is a bit of a "wimp".
Our two kids love being outside but when it gets above 80 they do search for shade even with their summer haircuts. I agree with the fact if they stop eating, be concerned but maybe they're just pooped with running around when they have been inside for the winter.
Callie pretty much wants to "hibernate" in the air conditioning in the summer. We go on very short walks to get her needs met until it is after 7pm when it starts to cool off. Then we'll go to the park or for a good walk. Even the heat coming up from sidewalks seems to get her down. The exception was this past Sunday when we went to the river with Judi and Timbow (from DK). It may have been the best time Callie EVER had in the summer and she was all abouit the water (thanks to Timbow's fine example).
