Hi all. So Angel just got spayed this friday and she's doing great. She's doing more than great: she's extremely hyper and acting more bratty than she's ever been. More hyper than she's ever been, too. I've been doing my best to assert my authority over her, even tethering her. I thought maybe the reason for her snit was due to a combination of feeling out of sorts without her hormone producing organs and discomfort from the surgery, but she's twarting most of my attempts.
First of all is this normal? Second of all any suggestions or rebuttals to my theory of the cause?
I dont know about the theory, but my mother felt fantastic after her hysterectomy! LOL! She said she cant believe she waited so long and should have done it years ago.
Peri was terrible after she was spayed...so hard to control and keep calm. But after she recovered, she has mellowed out and returned to normal. Don't worry about it!
Agree to stoned and stupid..... er should I say medicated. Spud seemed to hallucinate on our first walk after neutering. Could have been hormones and the fear stage, or medication, or stress, or a combination of all
If you think about it though, how do you feel when your hormones are not in order? Anxious, upset, hyper, elated, agitated, among many other emotions. Contrary to popular belief that spay/neutering calms a dog, Spud is more hyper than ever and he was neutered in August. We should keep in mind, these are puppies and they are silly, crazy, hyper puppy doodles.

My dog was very hyper after she was spayed. Turned out she was in lots of pain. She got the doggy equivalent of morphine via a shot after a visit to the emergency hospital. Stronger pain pills too. She was calmer after about 3 days. Some dogs have a low pain threshold. The vet at the emergency hospital told me that many vets only give puppies medicine that is the same as tylenol for the pain after the operation.
I know the feeling...our Holly was spayed two weeks ago and she was also brattier and more hyper than ever. We were told not to walk her more than to the driveway for a week, so she had a ton of built up energy and every time we let her out of her kennel she went crazy! Things finally started to get back to normal this weekend, we've gotten back into our routine of walking and playing fetch which has helped a ton. She still seems not quite like herself but it has gotten much better. My advice would be just give it time :).
