Swimming class

Just signed Yogi up for an intermediate puppy/swimming class!
I'm so excited to get him in a pool. It's freezing here like so much of
the country, so this sounds like fun.

We keep our boat down on the lake, so I really want him to enjoy the water
and be comfortable in it. I was afraid by the time it's warm enough to get in the lake this summer,
he'll be 9 months old and maybe not as easily acclimated to it.

Anyone try this type of training? They also offer dock diving and agility training. I hope he

I only really want him to learn "dock diving" so he will be comfortable jumping off the back of the boat (instead my lifiting him in)

 

This cold winter is making me especially impatient to get started.  I feel so fortunate that it is even offered

Do you really want him jumping off the boat? Really?

If Yogi sees a goose, and you are in route, he may just go after that goose.  There is boat etiquette!   Ask Laurie about when Fudge jumped in and made it to shore before they could catch up to her. Fudge took off...

A lot of variables in this one  :) 

So, if you are boating, and Yogi does want to jump overboard, you are a perfect candidate for that life vest we all keep raving about!

The boat is a tritoon, it's wrapped all the way around, he could only jump when we are stopped and floating around. We drop anchor in a cove, open the door, and say the "pool is open".

Hmmm Yogi must be small because my doodle could jump 5 feet easily  :)   So, I think they all can. We pontoon, so I get it

Still, its like anything, there is a time to swim and a time to boat.

He'll get it.  If he swims Great

I hope he swims well, we'll see. He is a mini, so not sure how high he'll be willing to jump.
Wiling is the key word, so far he doesn't seem real confident in jumping up on things.

Getting him out of the boat is easy......it's getting them back in that's a challenge! We have a life vest with a handle on the back. It would take two of us to get our Golden back up onto the swim platform.

I've seen these and we plan on using one. All this talk about boating, docks, and water is getting me way too anxious for summer :D
