Leo is 15 mos old and has been in class since he was 11 weeks old so.  He has his commands down such as sit, stay, leave it, down, come and others....but I didn't focus so much on tricks.   In his class  you can stay and do tricks with the trainer for fun for a few min.  Leo looks at me like I am crazy.   High five he will not left his paw even if I touch it, use best treat ever, raise his paw...nothing.  He will sit there, if nothing works he will go to to down, if that doesn't work he will do "touch" he goes through what he knows.  I don't clicker train but very close by saying YES at same time you click.  I looked online and videos. Most say the dog will paw at you to get treat, you click or say yes.  Haha no pawing at me.  Those feet stay planted.  :)  Thanks!

Pippa is exactly the same way. She is very smart and learns quickly but for some reason she just stares blankly at me when I try to get her to give me her paw. I have also tried to teach roll over. She lays down and waits for me to physically roll her over. It is very frustrating because I have Daphne, who will do any trick, any time. I thought maybe she would want to do it just because she watches Daphne. Its almost as if she says " Im too good for that" Lol! You can see Daphne do her tricks on my page under "videos". My daughters Golden also refused to give her paw but once I started taking her paw and then praising excitedly and treating her, she figured it out. Not so much with Pippa. They sure do have minds of their own! Good Luck!

Meg is my trick dog and Polly not so much.  When I try to teach Polly, Meg is beside me running through every single trick she knows so I will hand her the treat that I am trying to bribe Polly with.  I need to separate them if Polly is ever to learn anything but I think she will be more like your Leo.

Haha, Judy that is exactly what Daphne does. And if I ignore her and keep trying to get Pippa to do the trick, then Daphne barks at me to get my attention. I have to separate them but that usually just makes Daphne bark from the bedroom where I put her.

It is funny how some really like tricks.   I will work on it and make it fun but it might be something he just says "meh" not my thing..  :)

My dog understands the command, ' Roll Over' but... he refuses. He will do his type of verbal complaining. He will lay on the floor and give this growl, moan, groan, and frustration bark. He hates it.  Funny, but I just let it go

I think the"verbal complaining" is funny. We make Riley lay down before we release her to eat. She will sometimes crouch down but her rear is still up in the air. I'll tell her all the way and she'll grumble as she collapses down. Always makes me laugh. I swear they are human sometimes!
I actually physically lifted Sawyer's paw and gave him the treat. I had to do this many times and then I slowly backed off on how much pressure and guidance I gave him. :-)

Well....He got it.  :) we know have sit pretty, high five and crawl.   I used new treat flavor and it was just enough to have him say "okay I will do it" "Just give me that liver flavored treat!"

Congratulations Paige! Thats awesome!!!
