Amante was chilling at the front screen door this morning. I was doing laundry, cooking, homework etc.
I was walking back and forth accumulating laundry, putting laundry away in other words I was watching him. He was laying on the foyer rug enjoying the cross breeze. I am in the Laundry room doing a switch and hear him parking, not unusual but rare. I stop and call him. I hear a crash and RUN to the foyer. There is a BIG Dog on my Amante. He had crashed thru the screen and into my foyer. I instinctly try to grab the dog by the collar and try yanking him off. The hair on the back of him was standing straight up. I am screaming of course. I result to hitting him with the stick vacuum (closest weapon other then the Swiffer stick). He finally let go of Amante and I yelled for Amante to go in his crate. He did!! (Good Boy) I was able to kick the door shut. Now it is me and this dog who is now pissed because I hit him with the vacuum. He is trying to chew through the crate! I am worried because it is not latched. So I have my vacuum and am warding of this dog. My neighbor who was mowing his lawn finally heard my screaming. He came in I yelled for him to call police he did they arrived to find me standing on the crate with my vacuum now broken, guarding Amante!! I can only imagine what I looked like!! It was not pretty.
Amante miraculously seems fine, clingy and very affectionate. Animal control told me that the dog was chipped so they could find who it belonged to. He told me hiting him and kneeing him was not the best idea. I won't repeat my answer!!! I can't believe he just crashed through the screen like that!!! I think I am fine but am sure I will be sore later!! I guess I can't have a screen on front door.
Update: I have my glass in now!! Amante still sits in front of door and watches the passerby's. My husband comments that he wouldn't be afraid either if he had a pitbull bodyguard!! I called about the other dog and was told he was still in custody and that no one has responded to the messages that were left. He was chipped so they have been trying to reach the owners. If no one claims him I guess that means he will be put down. I feel sad for him. I am very very sore. My neck and shoulders are the worst of it. Imagine tomorrow will be worse before it gets better.

OMD! That is crazy. So a dog busts through YOUR screen door from outside to come into YOUR house and attack YOUR dog and the police officer is going to criticize YOU for how you handled it? Oh H E double hockey sticks NO!!! I would be LIVID!!!!!!!!!
I hope you're able to find out who the dog belongs to, those people owe you a new screen door!!!
:-) :-)
Oh my! Can't even feel secure inside your house from dogs running amok. Hopefully the fact he was chipped means it was a terrible accident and the owner is actually not completely neglectful of his/her not-so-nice dog and this dog's escape has a VERY good excuse behind it. Hopefully. Scary!
This is incredible....in a million years would you ever expect an aggressive dog to fly through your screen door and attack your dog. You must be in total shock...I know I would be. I applaud your quick thinking, and I'm so impressed that Amante went to his crate in the midst of all that chaos. Nice job, Rose Ann! I would definitely follow through to find out how and why this dog was loose in the first place.
Rose. First off, I'm glad Amante is ok. And I would definately go after the dogs owner for the cost of repairs to your screen door. Here's a solution I found for our patio door screen. Gus had a habit of running through the screen door if it was closed when the glass door was closed also and you didn't get the screen open fast enough for him. He never got hurt, but he would knock the door completely off and bend it. It's metal and just attaches with screws to the existing door. Now he stops because I guess he can see the metal screen. I got it at Lowes, but I'm sure most home centers/hardware stores would have them.
We installed one of these also, Joe. My last dog, was huge and could walk right through the door. Works like a charm.
I am as shocked as anyone would be reading your story. Many years ago, almost 40, our pet was walking in our small backyard when a dog ran down a hill and attacked him. It had to be at least 75 feet away to the top of the hill. I checked him over but missed a bite wound under his throat. Please don't hesitate to take Amante to the vet if he shows any signs of having been punctured from a bite. I also love the idea of the baseball bat, and I don't ever believe in hurting anything.
What a nightmare! I think we all try to think of the "what if's" and protect ourselves from the things we can imagine...but THIS!??? Hope you are able to calm down some and I sure hope sweet Amante is just fine with no "after effects".
Caution, puncture wounds are hard to see in the fur and tend to fester. A week or two later, you have a mess on your hands. Spud was bit at the dog park and the woman warned me. Sure enough, two weeks later....
This story is bizarre. The topic of discussion at my lunch table.
Lucky you, I see a new sweeper in your future!
So glad you are both ok! Two thumbs up for Amante getting into his crate right away! I agree that you need a glass of wine...or maybe two!
Good for you - what a nightmare. And exactly what were you supposed to do. Good, good Amante for going to his crate.
Good good Rose Ann for managing an incredibly unusual and difficult situation. I mean seriously incredible and horrifying.
Geez! That's ridiculous! Who would ever be ready for a dog being attacked in his own house!!! Glad Amante and you are okay. I'm so happy you had that stick vacuum nearby. And yes, I would definitely like to know who the owner is that make them pay for the screen door repair! I'm really upset about this! You did good!
