Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We just discovered that our mini labradoodle, Gracie (now about five months old) has just recently peed on our bed...it must have happened early this morning.  We've had no indoor accidents at all of any kind for quite some time, but we were certainly caught off guard.  She sleeps beside the bed at night...she's able to sleep straight through for seven or eight hours without any problems, and she's often given the big "invite" to come up onto the bed for a little bit or early morning cuddling and playing (not really in the mood for playing so early in the morning, but it happens).  She gives very few clues at this point that she needs to go out...we just get her to the door, she goes out, she relieves herself, and all is well with the world.  For some reason, this morning was another story...no indication that she had even peed in our bed until later this afternoon...she obviously has a bigger bladder now and it was a "gusher," soaking through the quilt, the sheets and into the mattress...yikes.  The sheets have been washed, and the quilt will go to the cleaners.  The ironic part of this incident is that we just ordered a  brand new mattress to replace this uncomfortable old mattress that she peed upon...woo hoo!!  How's that for good timing!!  The new mattress should be here in a few days...the old mattress has been moved to the garage, and we will sleep on one of those "somewhat comfy" Costco air mattresses for the time being.  Needless to say, we've rearranged Gracie's sleeping arrangement a bit so that she won't have access to get up onto the bed...at least until we can trust her when she is a bit older (and has an even bigger bladder!!).  I have a strong suspicion that we are not the only ones who have had the beloved family dog pee on the bed...there must be several of you out there in Doodleland who have experienced the same thing.  Gracie is still one incredible little dog...extremely mild mannered, socializing well with everyone she comes into contact with, soon to graduate from puppy kindergarten, eating and growing like a champ, etc., but we're hoping that we don't have to find any more dog pee soaked into the bed we sleep upon.

I dont have any suggestions. Wow, How lucky that it was the old mattress & you have a new one on order. I sure hope she doesnt go on that

The one time Calla did that I was right there and she was asleep. It turned out she had a urinary tract infection so I'd be on the watch for other out if the ordinary urination events.

My daughter's dog did this on our mattress. No warning. The first thing I always think is UTI or maybe she just really had to go :) On every mattress we own, I put on a waterproof mattress pad and below that a plastic covering that slips over the entire mattress. They are not that expensive and well worth it. Good luck!!

I don't know why I didn't think of this, but, yes...the waterproof mattress pad would be essential...just ordered one (and a plastic cover slip) from Amazon to put on the "new" mattress when it gets here...thanks for the tip!

She is still very young and if you rule out a UTI I would chalk it up to a still immature puppy accident.  I would take her out earlier in the AM for a while and revoke bed privs. (Sorry Gracie)

My guess is that after 7 or 8 hours she really had to go potty and then she got excited when she got up onto the bed and just couldn't control it.  I definitely wouldn't invite her onto the bed in the morning until after she's gone out.  I guess the timing for the new mattress was perfect.

Excellent timing!  I don't blame you for being cautious going forward. Penny peed on our bed twice on two consecutive days and then never again.  She was caught both times.  I'm guessing she was around 6 months old.  I chalked it up to testing us.

Ned did this once when he was a puppy.  We were camping in our RV and he peed on the bed where my mom (and her dog) slept.  I felt it was a power play.
