After literally months of torrential rainfall, we have finally had over a week of beautiful (although wicked hot) weather.  Finally, for the first time,  yesterday when I walked across the yard I didn't squish or step in any mud ...... so I immediately let the girls out to play.  Mind you, the have not been outside off leash since probably January when it snowed and the ground was frozen.  Our yard has just been a swamp.  What did they do ........ They fought with each other for about 30 seconds and then grabbed a big chunk of dead grass and went and layed down in the shade and proceeded to eat it.  I could not get them to stop eating the grass.  I was worried that the nasty clumps of dried up grass would make them sick so back in the house they came.  Today we will finally be able to get out and clean up from where we have be mowing in the mud for the last couple month and regain control of the jungle and hopefully they will have their yard back.

We had the mud too and I really don't think there is anything worse when you have two dogs. I was going stir crazy not being able to let them out in our back yard. I even prayed for snow or ice because at least the ground would be frozen. I looked out the window today and saw Fudge eating grass and Vern is like a cow. I can't keep him from grazing on the grass. These doodles keep us on our toes. Hope Lucy and Sophie enjoy their yard again.
Guinness loves to eat grass too....so far it hasn't made him sick.   Glad Lucy and Sophie have their yard back!

The girls have always nibbled on the yard grass or freshly cut clippings with no problems, but the difference now is that because of all the rain it has been really hard to get the grass cut everytime it needed it.  So there are lots of clippings each ( one week I raked 26 bags and didn't even put a dent in it).  When mowing you are literally slinging mud from underneath the mower and many parts of the yard have been standing in water for so long the grass is rotting and stinks.  Since it is always wet when mowed the grass just clumps together and I'm just a little afraid there could be some mildew or something in it that will upset their stomachs.

Chalk it up to them not knowing what to do with all that freedom!!! They will be better next time. Have fun!
Darwin does the same thing. He runs around for a bit, then hunkers down to graze. Weird pups.

Peri pretty much loves grass. I don't get it.  It used to freak me out because T. only eats it when his tummy is upset and it makes him throw up.

Congrats to you for getting your yard back!!!

You know how when you wash your car it will rain?  Or leave your sunroof open, it rains?  How about Sherri posting about HOW DRY Ohio is finally becoming, and it rains!    :P~~~~~~~~`

as I was typing the above there were loud noises coming from outside.   Welcome Back Rain .... What the Hail

I'm so upset about this I'm going to go EAT SOME GRASS

holy crap ....... got none of that here.  90+
It was 92 and then this. Amazing the difference in S. Ohio's weather and N.E. Ohio's weather.  Lake Erie has a very dramatic effect on what we get.   You enjoy being a Southern Ohio Belle!  I'm still going to blame it on your blog though. LOL
Bummer Joanne! Take it easy with the grass, there's ice mixed in there!

Iced Grass!  LOL   (read this earlier and did not get the connection)

Yeah well, it is raining again.  I'm still blaming this discussion.  And now maybe I could get bloat!  LOL
