Those Who Have Healthy Paws Insurance, How Much Have Your Rates Gone Up Each Year?

I know we have had discussions here about the large annual increases people have experienced with PetPlan insurance. I'm wondering if those of you who have Healthy Paws insurance have experienced similar annual increases?
I'm trying to decide between the two companies. :)

Yes, it used to be per incident, which for me, basically meant I never used it. It always seemed like my bill was just at the per incident deductible. Pet Plan did a major overhaul...new underwriters....and premiums went up A LOT and like you said, we were all a bit screwed. I was afraid to switch because of pre-existing conditions.  The only thing that helped me was they did change my deductible to an annual, but I have ceased recommending them because of the change. I am also sure they lost many customers because of the overhaul.

The thing is, now that Healthy Paws has passed PP in the ratings, I think the same things are happening as far as service and rates. It's the Peter Principle: a company gets bigger and more successful until they reach the tipping point and have to restructure things to keep up. I see a lot of people on the Healthy Paws FB page complaining about very slow reimbursement times, and HP acknowledging that there is a problem keeping up with demand and that they are working on it.

I am thinking about going with PP mainly because they cover exam fees (not for routine visits, just for illness.) I am not expecting this new puppy  to have the kinds of health issues that JD had, but my biggest vet expenses all involved specialists, and PP would cover those exam fees, which can be as high as $300 for an initial consultation, and then multiple rechecks at $75+ a pop, and ongoing annual visits for chronic conditions. I am basically taking out insurance for the BIG stuff, and my experience has been that the big stuff always involves a specialist, lol.

I do not have an annual deductible, I guess I am not in whatever category that is, we are in a per condition deductible. We never ever have to pay another deductible for Daisy's cataract or her annual follow ups. They pay 80% of that until she is no longer going (10 or so years from now I hope).

why don't you ever have to pay the deductible again?  Ours are annual deductibles with Pet Plan.  I pay for deductible for allergies this year and then next year it starts over?  Just trying to figure out why cataracts would be different?

I don't know Sherry, it is even stated clearly in my contract per condition, not per year, not per anything.

I am not looking a gift horse in the mouth and asking. It is a forever follow up, every year she has to see an opthamolgist.

Our Pet Plan we have to pay the 100 dollars per illness/incident every time the policy turns over...

I don't have annual decuctable though, I have per condition deductable. As long as i keep her policies intac it still applies, did you always have a nual deductable!? I hope they don' t  switch me.

I do not have an annual deductible I have a per illness/incident dedicbuibe which is 100 dollars.. Currently I have a cardiac illness/ dental/ and cervical injury. Each one I had to pay 100 for but now I met that requirement and everything is paid with no Cap .   I will have to pay deductible about when the policy flips over .. but again no Cap which I am grateful for . I would like the annual deductible but that wasn't an option,.

Sherry is right, they did lose their brains. They moved Daisy's Deductible up, which ticked me off, and her cost is more now that she is 8 but really not bad, we are silver 80/20

DEXTER COVERAGE - note that before the mind lost his deductible was $250

annual premium: $266.75

$20k annual coverage?

$350 per-condition
deductible
?

80% reimbursement?

Daisy's coverage - note that before the mind lost her deductible was $250 for same plan.

annual premium: $483.13

$20k annual coverage?

$450 per-condition
deductible
?

80% reimbursement?

It seems like the premiums really start a huge annual increase after they turn 7 years old, that was the biggest increase for us, Toby just turned 10 and from 7 years old we have had an increase each year

Well, Healthy Paws is quoting me about the same amount you are paying for 8 yr old Daisy for a 10 week old puppy.

I cannot believe it. And as you know we have had a huge claim. Over $5000 and they paid without a blink of an eye, and continue to pay for her annual visits, per condition has worked out for us so far.
