I was playing with Hudson after our walk tonight and noticed this red mark near his private area.  No sign of a tick at all but it sure looks like a tick bite to me.  So what do I do now???

He's not acting any differently at all.  I will call the vet in the morning and see what they suggest.  We were just there on Saturday for his last round of shots (got his last distemper, bordetella and rabies shot).  Could it be related to that?  I asked about the lymes vaccine and if she suggest we get it.  Because of where we live she suggested we do but I was going to wait another month or so before we did it.  Maybe I should do it sooner?

So is there anything I should do tonight before calling the vet in the morning?

It doesn't look like the tick bites I've seen - it could be another insect bite or ringworm or some other kind of fungus. Have the vet check it out.

We have had more ticks this year than ever before and I have never seen a mark like this on the dogs. Could it be ringworm? I second the vet, just to be sure!

Lyme usually has two rings, but it's possible.  It looks more like ringworm or a bacterial skin infection.  I would call the vet in the morning.

I think you guys might be right.  I just looked up ringworm images and that's what it looks like!  It's strange because it was not there yesterday, I gave him a bath and brushed him so I would remember seeing it.  Does it just appear suddenly like this?
yes, that's possible... note that ringworm can be transferred to humans, so be sure to wash your hands really well!!! Based on the location of this, however, I think it's more likely this is a black fly bite.
Ugh, I know.  I'm glad it's not a tick bite but now I'm grossed out about ringworm.  What really gets me upset though is that he is supposed to start his obedience classes this week!  Looks like I have to wait another month to start.  And we just went to orientation class last night :(
if it's just a fly bite, you don't have to postpone your class... so have the vet diagnose it properly.
That is ringworm.  You need an antifungal.  If you start treating it with a topical antifungal I don't see why you couldn't start your class.

Lola got that once and I brought her the vet to find out it was just a flea bite and nothing needs to be done for it.  The vet did circle it with a black marker to make sure the size didn't change - which it didn't.

That's an image of ringworm which is a fungal  skin infection that is contagious. If it is ringworm you need anti-fungal meds/ and or topical ointment.  The fact that it's in a circle would lead towards ringworm but it's not definite.  I would probably go to the vet if it were me.
Looks like it could hurt, is he bothered by it at all? Let us know wha the vet says so we know what to look out for! Good luck!
my first thought was ringworm - 2 of my cats had it when I fostered/adopted them. If you have a UV/black light you can check if it glows. Wash all bedding (including yours) and anything the dog can come into contact with. Its highly contageous so you may get it as well
