Pebbles is 5 months old and she is very timid of men - very reluctant to go near ant man my partner included. When we first got her she would only go to my partner for the first couple of days because he was doing everything for her, once he went to work she bonded with me and began not to take notice of him. Is this common?
Cali seems to be timid around many people she doesn't know and it does seem to be more so towards men. She will bark at any man that comes in the house, even ones she knows but calms down pretty quickly. Also when we first brought Cali home, she warmed up to my DH very quickly and it took her longer to get close to me. Now it is the exact opposite, she follows me everywhere and is always right next to me where ever I may be and not as much with my DH. (it might be the bully sticks I bring home, LOL.)
my new doodle, andi is very timid around men and boys. i think its their loud voices, tho im not sure. we are trying the cookie trick, every time a man comes over he has to give andi a cookie. i am hoping she will associate men with cookies and not be so scared any more..i dunno if it will work but i figure its worth a shot..
are you socializing her? She needs to meet lots of people, men, women and other dogs. Although it may not be unusual for a female dog to be timid towards men, they should learn to overcome this when they are young. If this is starting now at only 5 mths., it could become worse as she gets older. Maybe, she should spend a fun filled day with your partner so she will see that he is as much fun and caring as mom is?? When I first talked to our breeder, I wanted a female. I have had male dogs all of my life and wanted a nice little girl for a change. When I told her that I wanted a VERY sociable dog-she talked me into getting another male. She told me that the females could be timid.
