On Friday we are moving to a new place.  Jake will be in daycare while we do the moving, but how should I introduce him to the new place once we've moved everything in?  Slowly, room by room, over a couple of days like you do with a new puppy so he does not think he has control over the place?  I was thinking since it is all of our same furniture it won't be like introducing him to a completely new place so it might go smoother and we could do it over a couple of hours instead.  Tips?

I dunno. We move to the inlaws (3 day drive away) at the weekend, and I hadnt really thought about this. Cooper is 2 1/2 so I guess it depends on the age of the dog. We were just going to arrive, and let her roam. Shes pretty trustworthy to not chew and wont potty anywhere. She is not a dominant dog at all so we dont forsee any problems.

How old is jake? Is he a dominant type of dog? Does he like to mark? if so, they maybe do it room by room....

Jake is a year old today :)  He is not dominant by any means and he does not mark or chew, heck he still hasn't even once lifted his leg!  He is just very energetic and runs around like a psychopath in new places to explore/play with everything like a little puppy still.  He just usually can't settle down in a new place and be calm even after staying someplace for a couple days.  I've always tried to keep our home as a calm environment for him so he does not think it's okay to play 24/7, that is for outside!  We moved when he was still a young puppy so the crating/slow room by room introduction on a leash was not a problem.  He still loves his crate too as we've continued to leave it out for him so I know going back to it would not stress him out.
Oh, Happy Birthday Jake!
We haven't moved with Lucy and Sophie, but when we had our Toy Poodle we moved many times.  (Nevada to Ohio to Connecticut to Florida) and we never had any problems.  We just put her in the car and took her and then took her in the house.  The only time she seemed a little off was when we moved from CT to FL.  She picked a spot under the dining room table where she spent a lot of time and that wasn't like her.  She was probably around 10 when we moved her there.  My biggest concern would be the potty side of it.  Hopefully if it isn't a new house, the people there before you thoroughly neutralized any accidents if they had a dog.  It would be terrible to go backwards with a potty trained dog.
As soon as you arrive with Jake, I would take him through the house (on leash) to the backyard to potty.  Then I would walk him around the house on-leash but letting him explore.  If things seem good, let him go, if he seems a bit confused or tries to potty, I would confine his area for a while, increasing every few days.
