Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have a question - my micro-mini Australian labradoodle is one week from being 4 months old and today the temperature here is supposed to hit 38 degrees Celsius.  Our house does not have air-conditioning but I close everything up mid morning and have a couple of fans going so the house is pretty cool.  My Maxwell woke up very happy and playful this morning at 7:00 am but since 9:30 am he has been extremely lethargic - only wanting to sleep - he has eaten very little and has had only a bit to drink - do you think the heat Is making him so sleepy?  Do labradoodles tolerate the heat well or not so well.  Just wondering as he is not his normal bubbly personality.

Thanks Debbie and Maxwell

100 degrees Fahrenheit with no A/C sounds pretty intense and hot. Shelby and I live in TX and it is Hot for several months. I think your pup is probably less active due to the heat. I keep Shelby trimmed short I. The summer to help with the heat. It is important to keep pup hydrated... Maybe let him play with some ice cubes or try adding some water to his kibble. Of course keep an eye on him, but I know when it's really hot here, Shelby slows down significantly.

Thanks for your reply - I am now certain it is the heat - he came back to life as soon as it cooled down in the evening - I am trying to keep him cool - I have fans going in the house and giving him lots of cold water and even putting water on his back and tummy to help cool him down.  These heat waves usually only last a week or so - hopefully this heat wave will be the same and the temperatures will get back to normal.  I am doing everything to keep my sweet baby comfortable.

Thanks again Debbie and Maxwell

We have no air either; it gets into the high 90s and low 100s here, but not horribly humid.  Our dogs just lay around unless something 'fun' comes along. We let them decide their activity levels.   We don't keep our dogs much shorter in summer as we feel that their coats keep them appropriately temperature controlled.

Thanks for your reply - Maxwell really perked up once the sun went down so it was for sure the heat of the day that made him tired.  We have another week or so I think of this heat wave will try and keep him as cool as I can - with fans in the house and putting cool water on his back and tummy and making sure he has lots of cold water.  He is too young for a haircut - he is almost 4 months old now.  He is really enjoying the cooler evening so that is good.  Thanks again for your reply.
