Hey all.
I just signed up today but have been puttering around on the site for the last 4 months.

Tobie is 6 months old today!

For about a week now tobie will start barking at 5 a.m.
I usually get up every day at 6 am.

Background info:
We have a. Crate for him. We have used it since we got him.
It's down by the entrance to our house. Our bedroom is upstairs.

This just started. I try to ignore it just because I don't want him thinking that is how he gets out of the crate. It's constant and very loud. He did it this morning for 40 min straight.
He has never done this. He has barked before in the night but it wa like 2 weeks ago when we were changing his food and he had a day or two of the runs.

Tobie is not neutered yet. Soon.

Does anyone have any tips? Could this be him starting to be more "older"

Thanks in advance!!!!

Most likely someone or something in the neighborhood makes some kind of noise every day at that time. Maybe someone's work schedule has changed.

At 6 months, does Tobie still need to be crated at night? If so, could you bring the crate up to your room? He might not be able to hear whatever it is from the second floor. I'm thinking having him in your room at night might solve the problem.

it could also be due to it getting light earlier. Cooper sleeps in later during the winter, and wakes up much earlier ready to go in spring/summer. She will whine and cry to let me know shes awake and is ready for a pee and walk!

This is true. In my area, the sounds from the birds are deafening as soon as the sun starts to rise.

But what a lovely sound that is, Karen.

I agree. But I prefer the twilight version, lol.

deafening... love it. We have mocking birds here that love to mock all day and into the night. ;o)

Birds in the early morning are fine Monday - Friday, but they really need to shut up on Satruday and Sunday!!

that's exactly what i was thinking.... there is alot of light on our first floor so i think this could be a factor

Wishing this worked for us. My DH runs the dogs at 6:15 am. Owen now starts yowling (not barking... another whole level of dog noise he doesn't make any other time of the day) between 5:15 and 6:00. Even though DH doesn't get up, Owen has continued to try to rouse him for at least a year now. We are all so done with this but have no idea how to stop it. He hasn't been crated for over 8 months. sigh. Maybe we should re-crate him. I don't know. ARRGH.

see that's the same i was thinking.... but i never thought of putting the crate in a room i could section off and letting him have access to the room. great idea. Tobie doesn't go to his crate at night he likes to sleep in the same area as us. we have the right size of crate so he defiently has the room..

thanks for your help.

some great suggestions.

I keep my dogs upstairs in the bedroom now. There were occasions when they heard the garbage men or a kind neighbor throwing the newspaper on the porch and they barked very early. With the dogs in my bedroom it's much more peaceful.
