We have an on going discussion in the photography group.  Shoot the Moon.  Many of these shots were taken with a telephoto lens.  Not tonight.  All you need is a regular camera or even your cell phone.  I'll be taking the music of Nora Jones with me ( thank you Donna).  Here is the music.

There are a lot of old legions about the SuperMoon: going insane, going blind.. anyway, it is powerful.

BRIAN WILLIAMS explains in this next video about the Supermoon

Even if you don't feel like taking pictures, enjoy a beautiful evening outside with your dogs.

Here is how:

The moon will rise at 9:35 EST tonight.  The first hour or two is the best for capturing the moon.

Anne, these are great. I have to say you have gotten the "money" shot. I think there really has to be something else in the picture to give it some perspective.

FANTASTIC!!

Awesome!!

I have never tried to "shoot the moon before", so I was thrilled with what I got.  I do not know how you guys capture such wonderful photos (with trees no less)!

Beautiful. I think to get no trees when the moon is low you have to have a good spot, over water or something like that.

Yes, I ran all over the neighborhood trying to find one that would work!

This is a super shot of the "Super Moon".....I'm wondering how you got that great color?

Jane, If  you caught the moon early ( first half hour) it was that color because of the moisture in the air.  As it rises it then appears more white.

Many of us had a hard time finding it low enough in the sky.  That's all.

Try tonight.  It should still have that color because of the weather.

Thanks, Joanne.  Who knew?  It has been cloudy again here...no more moon shots.

I was wondering that too - now we know, thanks to Joanne.

It also depends on your area.  Pollution and particles play a large role in the colors of twilight and sunsets.  In this case, the earlier you caught the moon rise, the better the colors and the size appeared to be massive. Once in the sky ( about 45 minutes) it was unremarkable. That's what happened to me the first night

Very nice! It's so clear and the stark contrast of the black and yellow-ish moon is great!
