Here in Lima, Ohio we have had very cold temperatures. (the coldest  -24 with the wind chill)  I get ready to take Bodi out, he takes a few steps on the snow and refuses to go any further.  I feel so bad because I know that he needs to go!  This morning I attempted to put my socks on him and used packing tape to secure them (avoiding all fur!)  Three fell off on the way to the door and he pulled the fourth one off!

Can anyone recommend dog boots that will work?  I hate to spend a lot of money if he won't wear them!!!

Help!!

(I took him out again and he did pee - but he is holding his poop!)

Yikes, that is cold! In Boulder, we haven't had that cold yet---but Ruby, at 11 weeks, seems oblivious to cold while I can't stand it--"Hurry up and figure the perfect spot to poop!" She wants to stay out, play in the snow and charge around the ice-slick sidewalk. Good thing she is so cute.

My best advice, have you considered moving?

Good luck!

Ha Ha Shoney & Ruby - I have lived here for 30 years.  I'm not moving!!

I know some people have had good luck with the boots, but my guys don't like them.  Murph just stands still and refuses to walk in them, and Guinness just lays down and tries to "bite them off".  It's freezing here too with lots of ice and snow....maybe I need to give it another try now that they're older.

Guardian gear is a good brand , it's all breathable and water repellent fabric. Stays put with the heavy duty Velcro.

We had those for our first dog because he was sensitive to the cold...but Cooper is not.

You can find those on Amazon.

I don't have any boot recommendations (not needed here in Oregon :) but could you shovel the snow and create a potty area for him?

I have fleece-lined Muttluks for Winnie- they are kinda spendy but they stay on really well.

I went to the local pet store and bought a pair of boots. . . worried about the size, but we got it right.  We got them on with many Zukes treats!  Then he did that silly walk, but he left them on.  Later we got them on again and he went for a walk. He still wouldn't pee with them on!!  This morning it is warmer - 26 degrees! So I didn't put them on. We are expecting ice and snow later . . . so we will be back to the boots!!

I thought it was cold in Indiana! Today felt like a heatwave with this past week in the negatives.
My Gracie who is 9 weeks old isn't phased by the cold. I guess there's one benefit to potty training during the winter. I have been considering boots, but she's doing fairly well and I try not to be out too long with her. But, she needs to also burn off a little energy so on those really cold days we took a quick walk around the house.
I was reading elsewhere here (or maybe another forum) about something called "mush glide". ?.? Anyway, it's used for sled dogs to help their feet. I can't remember the full name, but if you did a search, I bet it would come up.

I tried several pairs of boots last year and had no luck with any of them. They either didn't stay on, he bit them off, or ran around like a crazy bucking horse trying to get them off. I gave up, and Max doesn't seem to mind the cold at all, in fact I'm pretty sure he likes it far more than warm weather.

Our wind chill last week was 20 below as well. Riley charges outside all excited then quickly starts lifting her paws because of the cold. Tried some cheap boots last year but they didn't stay on. We keep saying we're going to buy muttlucks but then we forget to measure and order.
