Just wondering if anyone has any good ideas for toys that might help keep Bodhi from getting bored those times he has to be alone? I have been down with a bad back and it is really hard to play with him...but he WANTS to play and he is getting really tired of his playtime buddy laying on the couch!!! Also...outside toys. I would love for him to have a place to climb and was looking at playground type equipment but not sure what works for a 90 pound 11 month old GoldenDoodle with alot of energy to spare. We don't have a huge yard...but we do have some space and I am willing to give it all to him. Any ideas are welcome. Thank you so much
Our puppy Cosmo is much smaller than Bodhi (Cosmo is a medium, and at 5 months he weighs about 25 pounds), but here are a couple of things he enjoys:
1. An empty Simply Orange juice bottle with a handful of kibble in it. Because of the shape of the bottle, Cosmo has to work with it to get the kibble to come out, and he loves the noise it makes as the kibble rattles around. He runs through the house tossing the bottle, and it gives him a lot of exercise.
2. A flirt pole made from a lunge whip (used with horses, purchased from our local farm supply cooperative for about $10), with a squeaky toy tied on the end. This is helpful, because I can sit down and use the pole to flip the toy around in the air. Cosmo gets a lot of exercise this way, as he runs back and forth, but I can stay in one place. A larger whip might be better for a bigger dog, and you might need to add some extra cord to the end to get the right length.
We haven't tried playground equipment, but I hope these ideas help!
If my mind only worked ..... maybe someone else can help out here. There is a lady and I'm at a loss for her name or her Doods name. She lives in I believe the Carolinas. I want to say she does some work also for guide dogs or service dogs. A while back she was building some things in her back yard for the dogs to play and exercise on. She put some pictures on here and it was some pretty interesting ideas. ANYONE REMEMBER? It was like a doggie playground.
that is exactly who it was. you can see some parts of the things she built in the pics on her page but I didn't find the ones I was looking for. Will have to look more later. And like Camilla says, it might actually be in a video.
At the Daycare where my guys go they have the kids heavy plastic playground equipment, and the dogs seem to really love it. Of course, they're all playing together so that may be part of the attraction. I know Guinness really loves the agility tunnel too, especially if I throw kibble in it first.
Put some treats in Snickers kong and he forgets we exist! The down side are the goobered paws and chin but he really limes "working" on getting the treats out.
Wow! Bodhi is Murphy size (99 lbs).
The human exercise ball was a big hit with Murphy, too. And, yes, he rolled head first over it (which was quite a sight). He also loves tennis balls....even inside. Hide and seek games.
His favorite thing is to CATCH (frisbees, balls, footballs, whatever) items as opposed actually just retrieving them.
We use a liquor bottle (of course we rinse it out) and also put kibbles in it. Guinness will chase it around for a long time. You could also take a big half gallon milk jug(for outside fun) you tie it on a long rope or string and attach it to clothes line or hook...it swings back forth as they chase it....
