This morning I tried to give Trixie her Chewable iverhart pill.  She wanted nothign to do with it.

So I saved it for Lunch & Cut it into 4ths.

I mixed it in with her Pumpkin & Plopped it in her food.

She still wanted nothing to do with it.

So I tried to put 1/4 of the pill down her throat ( I am experienced at doing this)  I think the problem was it was soft from the pumpkin & stuck to her throat.  I feel very bad now that I gave it to her.

5 Minutes later she threw up all her Breakfast (that she ate 5 hrs ago)

She then threw up more food about 20 minutes later.

And then lots of Liquid about 20 more minutes later.

I could tell she still did not feel good.

I let her out & now she has diarrhea : (

Since I only tried to give her 1/4 of the pill & she threw up 3 times after that & lots...I assume she did not get any of the meds....So Its wied that she has diarrhea to me.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I will get the other kind of Heartworm pill that I used to give my other dogs..The nice soft chewable kind & they protect against 1 less thing if I recall.

I assume I should give her that in a few days ( I will ask the vet) As she is not protected from heartworm if she didnt get thisose.

Trixie just threw up some more bile a few times.

Is there something I can do to help settle her stomach.

I feel she will get dehydrated going at both ends.

She wont drink water...Shed probably throw it up anyway.

Ice?  Will she just throw up from that too?

You can try ice. I would consider the vet, though.

Thanks Bonnie,   I will wait a little while & then try an Ice cube 9 She does love those) And see how that does with her tummy.   Then try another a little later if it seems to sit ok with ther.

I Do have some  frozen pedialyte cubes too...if the Ice seems ok...I may give her a Pedialyte Popsicle

Pam, It sounds like you should call the vet.  Especially if this was the first time using this brand of heartworm medicine.

Thanks Tina,

Our vet is closed.   I can call the ER vet.  But they will just tell me to bring her in so they can see her....At this point I am not ready to do that.   She is resting now.  She did drink some water on her own after I last posted & that she has kept down so far.

She actually had this pill once before...I am wondering if it is when she threw up a little bit in the middle of the night...And we just didnt connect the two.

I use Pepcid to settle my guys stomachs with vomiting....it works well for them.  I hope she feels better.
Jane, me too.  Or I try to give them a tums.  Something to settle things down.  Then go from there
Sounds like she wasn't feeling well before you even gave her the pill, so it might be something else- esp if she now has diarrhea. The pill probably just made her stomach more upset. I hope she feels better soon!
By your listed order of events it does sound like she had an upset tummy BEFORE the heartworm pill and that the pill had nothing to do with it but just maybe having anything in her tummy exacerbated the situation.  Diarrhea and vomiting together usually isn't a good thing...I would call the vet too if it continues.
Sounds like too little a dose and too quick a reaction to be the pill. Spunds like something else is going on there. How has she been the past few hours?

Sorry, I had family over for a BBQ & just got back to my PC.

Thanks for your concern.

Trixie is doing ok.  She has not thrown up since I posted early this afternoon.  She only ate about 1/4 c food.  But thats ok.  She has drank some water & has eaten ice Cubes all day.

I did call the ER vet.  They said to bring her in as she might get dehydrated. They had no other advice.   Since she was keeping the Ice down.  I did not want to go there & sit for hours.

I know its hard to believe the little bit of Pill I tried to give her made her sick.  But she was fine this am.  Ate her food, Pottied fine & asked for Lunch...

I guess the only way to really know is to give try to give her the medication again, but that would be hard for me to do too so I'd probably just switch to a new med. Has she had any other brands before?
